Zoom Motor Alternatives

Does anyone know of available alternatives -- external zoom motors that can be attached to the HVX, for example -- to work around the less-than-smooth zoom motor on the HVX? I'm not a technician in these things, and I've been looking at the PRESTON CINEMA and MICROFORCE hardware..... but I don't know if any of it would help.

All I want is silky-smooth, fluid zoom start and stops. Is that so wrong?

But will you choke on the cost of a microforce controller and a Heden Motor?

Not to the same sickening repulsion caused by the onboard zoom motor.

Though, I don't actually know the cost of the entire rig. Do you?

You might be able to adapt a Camera Turret motor focus/zoom. Not sure if stepper or servo better option. Talk to Lou.

Edit: I do not see how you can practically use an external motor zoom on the HVX. No practical way to fit a zoom gear. The gear teeth on the Camera Turret motor focus will not match the HVX native zoom gear groove (no teeth as such). You could try jamming a device against the HVX zoom gear, may work, not sure about getting teeth to match or slip issues. Good luck.
