so this is only available in the UK right now or what? seems like if they had it for sale, there would be a real picture of the lens on their site. especially on sony's site. unless I am missing something, this looks like a Prime lens.

I have been known to miss things though! ;)

That article was from back in June. They announced it was coming out back then, but no word that its out yet.

The 18-252mm is a great all around range, but T3.8? Then back it off another stop or two for maximum sharpness. Kind of kills the advantages of the S35 sensor, doesn't it?

Yeah a friend told me he heard about the zooms also... but he'll say pass once he sees the link I sent him with the f-stop...

Judging from the PDF product brochure they won't even reveal the T rating when it zooms in... just T 3.8 at the wide end. Betcha it is sloooow.

My understanding was it was to be T3.8 fixed for the entire zoom hence the high price tag...but we will have to wait and see.... 18-250 would be sweet but Sony FZ mount....maybe not the best longterm investment unless Sony is going to stick with this mount for a long time to come. Actually if this ends up being under 10k street...it may be a great run n' gun ENG lens and pay for itself in the long run.

T3.8 really isn't that bad, do you guys have any idea how large an 18-252 T2.8 lens would be? It'd be twice the size of the camera.

If the 18-250 lens is anything like the one Sony had "under glass" at NAB I highly doubt it is going to be anything like the Sigma or Tokina. The lens was HUGE in comparison. That information on the website from June is premature. The lens was still very much under development in the spring time and the ETA for it was into 2012.

From what I saw of the lens casing I intend to disregard the information linked above.

EDIT:

Just in (Sept 9th). Pouring through the IBC issue of Film & Digital Times. Sony has now stated the 18-252 T.8 FZ will ship Fall of 2011 and the 11-16 T3 will ship Winter 2011.
