Zoom lens support

Your thoughts please on whether you would use a lens support on this Nikon 17-35mm lens.

Considering it is 25.8 oz./730g and extended out on an adaptor...I probably (definitely) will support it but interested in your experiences with your zooms and supports.

In the hand , this lens is truly weighty - like an Ultra Prime, but of course the Nikkor /M43 adapter mount is no where near as beefy as a PL

ive tried using a lens support bracket with this lens but it was difficult to fit with along with a FF next to it -- the zoom and focus rings are really close together.

Not such an issue with my FF. system

The FF gear is off-set enough to allow a support to fit directly under the lens between Zoom and Focus rings on the lens.

Beauty of this lens for rigging is ..all movement is internal.

Optically it is great. It has a good field-of-view range. Focus ring is stiff -- I do not know if it is just my sample, but it is so stiff that the FF while focusing would slightly twist the lens from where the lens meets the adapter.

It is not an ill-fitting lens adapter (Novoflex) because none of my other lenses exhibit this.

I've been looking at that lens for a while now. How is it?

I only picked it up yesterday but...I had tested it a bit before buying it.

It is real sharp thru'out. It focuses real close. Its aspherical. Its heavy and very well made. It get very good reviews generally.

It suits my table top shooting mode.

I will semi de click the aperture . (Make them almost clickless.)

Mine does not exhibit any tightness in the focus or zoom ring but and I will get the lens tech to re lube the Zoom internal for a little more "smoothness".
I like using variable primes with a little image "push/pull" ( ie. mini zoom)

Read the Ken Rockwell review.

mine might just be old. ive been meaning to send it in to Nikon for some routine maintenance work.

Wooblee, is that a Red Rock shoulder brace / FF / rod rig on your signature pic? Does it balance well on the shoulder if you're using the EVF?
