Zoom H2 better than Røde Video mic?

I saw some comparisment videos, and noticed that the zoom h2 (synced in post ) in my opinion recorded cleaner, better audio, then the Røde videomic when plugged into a hdslr (like the canon 7d etc). Has anyone experienced the same?

In many cases, yes. However it is also very possible to get clean audio in camera if done right.

I've got the zoom and the mic. What sounds best is getting both and plugging the mic into the zoom instead of the DSLR.

Ah. So, the thing is, which camera you are using actually makes a BIG difference, as some are more capable than others at recording decent sound (the 7D, for example, is nearly impossible to record decent sound into directly, whereas I demonstrated the 550D is quite possible). The reason a lot of people prefer an external recorder, IMO, is the simplicity of it. It just works and is camera independent.
The trade off is dealing with a soundtrack that then needs to be synced in post.
