Zoom H1 vs Zoom H4N (Which one?)

They both sound pretty good. If the H4n is 100, the H1 is about 92.

Anyway, I'm speaking as the owner of two H1s and a H4n.

Hey, just wanted to know...Is it possible to use the Zoom H1 as an external Mic for the TM700(or any other camcoder) ,which works like the Rode video mic or the azden? considering the Zoom H1 seems to have a decent microphone , and if it can also be used as a direct input mic (which records directly on the camcoder) that would be an awesome thing to have for 100$.

Bought an H1 to record live audio from a mixer. did what it was supposed to but I still returned it the next day cause its build quality was really bad - felt like $2 plastic toy. I wasn't too impressed with the H4n's build either. ended up picking up a DR-100.

That Zoom R24 seems like a steal at that price. Wish I would've known about it before getting my H4n.

Battery of my H1 runs dry VERY fast. This apparently was a problem many others had as well. I got a replacement from the store but the problem remained. Gonna sell it.

Try any decent, or lithium batteries. My Zoom used to last about 20mins using rechargeable batteries, popped some decent alkalines in instead and I havent need to replace them yet.

Hmm, I've tried cheap and expensive lithium as well as cheap and expensive alkalines but it didn't change anything significantely. Are you taking about H1 or H4n?

I've just bought a H1.. the H4n was losing it's battery life to fast on me...

I want to shoot stuff of a kayaker paddling and talking... thought the H1 might be better...

What are lav's are good for the H1..???

The only lav's I can need power...

Cheers

Do you need any special adapter plugs to use rode Mics with the H4N?
I have a Rode Lav and a boom mic.
Thanks

Depends on your needs.

For example, the guys at Still Motion uses the H1 to mic up the bride for their wedding films. So the H1 will be tied to the garter belt of the bride with a lav mic connected and placed in her cleavage area.

But with respect to the AGC on your 7D you can disable it in two ways:
1) Use the Rode Videomic Pro Compact Version and set it to +20db, in that way you can trick the AGC in thinking there is "sound" going into the mic and therefore it will shut out the static nature of the AGC
2) Use Magic Lantern!
