Zoom H1 monitoring question

What is routed to the headphone jack of the Zoom H1? For example, I will be recording the built-in mic on one channel, and the line input on other channel. I want to monitor only one channel at a time on the headphones. Is there a switch for that? I'm guessing maybe it puts each channel isolated on the left/right headphone, but this doesn't seem to be documented anywhere.

To give more context, I plan on using this to record iPhone calls. I'll connect a TRRS splitter to the iPhone. iPhone audio output goes to a TRS splitter, connected to headphones and to the H1 input. H1 output goes to the iPhone input. This way I can hear the other person in my headphones, they hear my voice through the H1 mic, and I get a 2 channel recording with our voices separated.

I don't think that will work. Once you plug in a line (regardless of mono or stereo input) you cut off the external mics. I'd test it myself but don't think I have the right cabling sitting around.

Thanks, yeah that seems to be correct, at least that's what it says in the H2 manual. I'll have to move up to a larger recorder, maybe the H4n. I checked on the Tascam DR-40, and it has a 'solo' feature to do this, but you have to physically hold the button as long as you want to solo. That's unacceptable in this case.

You need to get a phone recording interface for cell phones.

Look at THIS from JK Audio.

This way, the recorder is only handling recording the singla coming in and you an't trying to loop it back to your phone (which won't work). If you want a better recording of your voice, move up to a recorder like the DR-60DmkII, which has a 4-channel record mode and can take both the 1/8" output from the JK interface AND a better mic just for your voice into one of the XLR inputs.
