ZOOM damage

What specific kind of damage can be done to the HVX if zoom is in "servo" and it is "manually" turned. Will it be something noticeable like the zoom won't work or could it be a subtle thing that a novice wouldn't notice? the HVX book mentions it, but doesn't detail what kind of damage.

When I first bought my HVX (and in my own ignorance), I did this once. As far as I can see my zoom works fine. Just wanted someone's experienced input.

VeeMan, if you only did this once and haven't seen any problem, you should be fine. But it's not something I would count on every time. :)

On one of the DVC80 cameras, somebody had forced the zoom ring in servo mode and the little "catch thing" broke inside the camera now the camera can only zoom manually. Its there for a reason, just like the mic/line switch.

you take a chance of stripping the gears (which is probably a worm gear drive which doesn't like being run in reverse). if you didn't hear any ratcheting, you probably didn't damage anything.

I accidently did it this morning just for a split second. It actually disables the zoom (2) function completely and also make a considerably louder noise when servo zooming. It doesnt effect the manual controls but does effect the auto ones. on the hvx200 it really doesnt matter anyways though from what i hear. Your zoom lens is going to get louder the longer you own the camera as the gears wear our and also on the right hand side (non handle) t & w button, it is touch sensitive so if you want that zoom 2 look just hold the t button down half as hard as full and you'll get the same look. It sucks but im not gonna bother sending it in, I don't think Panasonic will fix that for free anyways. It is pretty noticable that you did it on accident.
