zoom Control for EX3

Can somebody recommend a zoom controller for the EX3?

Do only the EX series ones work or do the fujinon lens controllers work as well??

also... what are the pros and cons of an electronic focus control like from varizoom vs. the standard manual follow focus?

In a broadcast environment... you'll find cameras mounted on pedestals (versus tripods) with two pan handles (versus one pan handle) with these remotes on them. Typically in the left hand is zoom and record. The right hand has focus. These remotes are mounted on top of the pan handles and the operator has control over the camera via the rear end versus a traditional follow focus. With a traditional follow focus... things aren't digital first of all. And you're up right next to the lens... cinema vs broadcast really.

If you're going to be using the EX-3 stock lens... then you need to be using a EX specific controller. Something like the Rock EX or VZ-Pro-EX from varizoom would work nicely for zoom and recording. However for focus... you basically only have wired or wireless follow focus options with the stock lens. You don't get the same focusing options like you did with the HVX for instance. Where zoom, record, and focus could all be put on the same remote.

If you're using 1/2" or 2/3" professional glass... then you're in a different boat.

thanks for the input joseph.

hmmm... the varizoom VZ-FC-U seems to do the same thing as a follow focus? is that not right?

i'm looking for like on a jib application where being right up next to the lens isn't possible. i guess i can just get the vz-pro and leave the camera on auto focus but i kinda want to avoid that.

Personally when I do jib work, I only like zoom control and let the camera autofocus. But that's to make my life easier. It's also a matter of your own budget.
