zoom-audio question

haha so I just got a dvx. Honestly I wasn't expecting such a beautiful camera. Anywho, I noticed the zoom buttons on top of the handle, and when I tried using them it just makes a very very subtle move. Like you barely notice. Very slow. Is it suppose to be like this? and whats the reason?

Also is there a way to turn off the on camera mic and just get audio from the boom/shotgun?

for the zoom, look on the right side of the handle, there should be a switch with 1 2 and 3 settings. Those are the different speeds you can zoom at.
