Zoom Arm (or something)

I'm not real thrilled with the servo on the HVX200A, and it's tough (for me, at least) to get a real smooth zoom with the little knob when I'm on manual. Is there like a bar or arm or something you could attach to that thing that would allow you more control. Does that even make sense, theoretically?

I know Zacuto and Redrock both make lens gears for the HVX... typically for the focus wheel not the zoom wheel... but there's no reason you couldn't unscrew the pivot knob and attach these gears there. Then you could use a follow focus to get more precise control over your zoom I suppose.

Another solution would be to get a PZFI Rocker from Varizoom... which won't give you more servo control but rather a different way of interfacing with your iris, zoom, and focus.

Here's what I did...I took the knob off the camera, took apart a pen, heated the plastic on the pen, and formed it around the knob. Now I just keep the knob off except when I need more control.

Oh...also to make it look a little better I roughed up the plastic with sand paper, then sprayed it with flat black paint.

I've been thinking along those lines, and I tried to unscrew the knob, and its pretty tight. I've been afraid to break it. It does simply unscrew from the zoom ring, right?
