Zeiss release DSLR lenses... ooooooo!

Zeiss has always had lenses for DSLRs...the ZF and ZE series for Nikon and Canon respectively. And the Compact Primes have been out for PL mounts. Now they have Compact Primes with EF mounts which is great, but not a huge change. The glass is not different, it's just the mechanics of the lens that are better and designed for cine work.

It's up to you if you want to spend the 2x - 3x price tag over the SLR counterparts to have cine housings.

Right, but what is new is that the lightweight zoom has been issued in the interchangeable PL, EOS, and Nikon F mount...

From what I was reading, I think that the zoom AND the new primes will have the interchangeable lens mounts. No?

Not to threadjack or anything, but is there any difference between Zeiss ZEs and ZFs other than the mount?

I know the CPs do. Although they recommend you let Zeiss do it, you can swap mounts yourself.

ZF's also have manual iris control which is great when you aren't on an electronic system. Plus they are generally 20-30% cheaper than the ZEs.

personally i was originally excited about the CP.2's, but their new "matched" aperture i thought made the lens set worse. the previously much faster 50 mm and 85 mm are rated down to a 2.1 now really kills it for me. The are speeds at of standard speeds, great optics and can cover FF, but as long as s35 shooting is still the biggest thing right now in big productions, I'll pass and save up for something else down the pipe.

Yes, but we already knew about the primes. Actually, though, I think there is a bit of news there -- we had previously heard that the primes would be available with an EOS mount, but now it says EOS *and* Nikon. So one lens with interchangeable mounts for Nikon, PL, and Canon.

" CP", "Cinema Primes" or "Compact Primes"?

That was my other question.... would they be "Field servicable"?

That is very cool. One question that has stuck in my craw, with the plethoria of cameras that are now available, and the ones just over the horizon, is about investing in the lenses. This takes quit a bit of the worry out of that... now just to pay for them!

I was on the fence about buying the new Compact Primes V.2 ...

Until I found a guy selling his ZF set. 28/T2, 35/T2, 50/T1.4, & 85/T1.4 with Redrock Follow Focus, Pelican case and 4 EF adapters. Got it for $3400.

Holy crap I hate you. Perfect glass and mechanics? I hate you. :)

So, I am loving that small-ish 15.5-45mm T2.6 Zeiss zoom! Nobody else liking that? Steady cam awesomeness methinks.

Last I heard, the full set of 7 would be $20k. But they would have smaller packages too. Otherwise I think the lenses would be about $2K-$4K individually.

That is, of course, an amazing amount of money, however, with these lenses you know that they will be useable for a very long time.
