FS7: Zeiss Milvus

Ha was just about to suggest the Dremel move. About 50% of my lenses needed this doing and the others were fine. I'm not using these with a Contax film camera so all is good.

My camera repair guy suggested it was fine to do and wouldn't effect resale. He said no one uses a contax camera anymore.

That should work perfectly fine, only issue is you have 2 places where the mount can get shaky. However you may have the same problem with the Contax lens protruding, but only testing can be sure.

Thanks guys, Although I did read that it does not work with infinity focus for some reason, making the solution rather pointless. Ah well, the quest continues :)

I have the 50mm and the 85mm and really like them! Sharp, great contrast and color.

I'm considering picking up the 35 and 100 as well.

Was any consensus reached on preference of Milvus 50mm f/1.2 vs Milvus f/2 macro?

Any thoughts on the Sony G Master ( GM ) 85mm f/1.4 vs Milvus 85mm f/1.4?

I am really liking the thought of that iris ring on the Sony GM 85mm. Wrong-way focus in order to gain manual iris on the Milvus isn't appealing to me. Especially since it only gains a dinky iris ring that is difficult to access. Sony got the iris ring right on the 85mm GM. I wish other lens makers would follow suit. Ideally the iris ring is the same diameter as the focus ring. I realize that the Milvus is of a still photography design and still photographers don't much care about manual focus action or manual iris being that still photographers are mostly punters who just frame and click.

On another note, the web page for the Celere HS is hilariously funny and clever. It reads as if it was written by folks with field experience. Refreshingly different from the cold marketing pages of Zeiss / Sony / etc. Ck it out:

Aaaaaah. That just solved a long standing niggle for me. I have all Contax glass on Leitax EF mounts - in large part influenced by having seen you talk about the mounts some time ago. I always assumed there was no way to get them onto a Speedbooster.

Some careful Dremel action lies ahead. Any tips?

Just before the £ crashed post-Brexit I managed to get my ZE Otus 55mm for £1900 in mint condition. Personally I think anything under £2,500 and you'd be a fool to not jump on them.

Desperately trying to stop myself pulling the trigger on the Milvus 21mm at the moment.

It's probably the only focal length that there won't soon be an Otus version of and the old Contax version was my fave lens from that set.

Telling myself if I sell my Contax 18mm I would no longer have a 'close enough' option for those shots and that's half the cost anyway...

Trying very hard to operate a one-in one-out policy unless it's a £20 Helios for taking a dremel to.

Does anyone know if some of the Milvus lenses have a forward/backward-slipping focusring when pulling focus? I need all lenses to work with a FF. I basicly want the 35 and 85

One point; you can use a speed booster with the Zeiss but not the Sony.

As for those Celery lenses, I'm still waiting for a quote from them, it's only been a month since I first asked for one...

All the Zeiss glass works fantastically with follow focus. As Liam mentioned the Zeiss Lens gears are amazing. Not cheap but they are so solid and fast to put on/take off if you are on a budget you'd only need one for each size. Alternately I had the 3d printed gears on my Contax glass from ebayer 'helicoptersean' for around £30 each.
