Zeiss Loxia 35/50

Any tried the close focusing distance on these?

Can't help but notice the Voigtlander primes for the GH series has a ~17cm close focusing distance whereas the Loxias are listed as 30cm (35mm) and 45cm (50mm).

These measurements are from the image plane correct?

To achieve the same field of view, the 'equivalent' focal length on a smaller sensor is wider, which usually means that a lens like that can focus closer.

On the other hand, designing a lens like that has it drawbacks, too.
Because it needs to be f0.95 to have a similar-ish DOF it has more elements, so it is likely to be bigger and heavier with more aberrations, vignetting, etc.

You can still add extension tubes with electronic contacts to the Loxias (with their own limitations, infinity focus will be lost) or just use a dedicated macro lens.

Imho the real drawback of the Loxias for video is the amount of focus breathing, but most still lenses behave similarly.
