Zeiss lens presentation (Rule Boston Camera Learning Lab)

Great presentation, some highlights:

Richard does divulge that yes, the CP.2 are based on the optics as their SLR lenses, with some minor tweaks (i.e. 14 vs 9 aperture blades). The differences of the CP.2 vs. SLR line are mostly ergonomical, which include:
CP.2 all have same dimensions, focus/iris gear positions the same, higher resolution 300 degree focus range, same focus range across all lenses so focus pullers don't need to relearn each lens, internal focusing for matte box applications, calibrated focus measurement markings on both sides, 14 vs. 9 aperture blades, declicked aperture, interchangeable camera mounts for future expandability.

There are Zeiss lenses that were left on the moon from the Apollo missions. They were left there so more moon rocks could be returned to Earth.

SLR zoom lenses, when zoomed, do not hold focus like video lenses do when zoomed. To do this in a cine lens is very difficult, that's why Zeiss focuses on primes (pun not intended!). They do make a zoom lens that solves this issue, although it costs around $25,000.

There is also this recent interview with Richard Schleuning at the Emerging Technology Expo and Communications Summit (ETECS):

A great presentation, and wonderful to see a company so accepting and embracing of people experimenting/modifying their products, and so attuned to what their customers are asking for.

I didn't realise the CP2's had switchable lens mounts - between that, the Full Frame coverage and the pricing, they really do sound like a 'lens for a lifetime'. Wish I could afford some myself.

Richard did mention to me that they are looking at producing a lower cost zoom. Keep in mind that lower-cost is a relative term :)

Absolutely. Just bought a Carl Zeiss CP.2 50mm lens yesterday with the 4/3 mount, and it's great to know which ever camera I may be using in a few years time, my Zeiss came 'come' with me.
