Zeiss Compact Primes---Zoom lens coming 2012

Even rental on those is going to be ridiculous, on par with a full set of Master Primes. I'd expect full set of 10 to be around $280K, with a rental of about $2000/day.

I won't be touching them anytime soon.

if you set the bar against Hawk Ana's, they usually rent for around 500 a day per lines. so 2-2.5k a day for a set of 5 is right on the money. Can't wait to see them up against the classic Panavision Ana's.

Just one note...if production has enough money to start talking about these, chances are you're a guy who gets a set of 10 or 12 primes, not 5 :-)

to rent? I doubt it, you mainly need more telephoto with ana's, as the field of view is so immense already. a 25 mm ana will probably the widest a typical production ever needs. I usually see sets of 5 to be the typical, even when it comes to spherical even on shows where money is of little consequence. It's mostly up to the DP, and usually their obligation to not spend TOO fervently. :)

If you're talking Hollywood, than yeh they just probably have everything on standby hehehe.

I dont see that being true. I like ana on the wide end, kinda the whole point, to get a vista shot, otherwise i'd just matte a 1:85. Also i too think 5 is typical for an indie feature. I could shoot a whole feature with just 3 anas with the right mm. Its all a matter of DP, rent 3, rent 12... heck we dont even know if they will make 12... my guess is 5 with longer tellys coming later.

But do expect the prices to be lower, i think thats the whole point with cp.2's and they will start to bring quality ana glass at lower prices than hawk. I'd LOVE to see them do some 1.3x.... come on guys, you could make a killing selling those/renting those to us F3 and standard Alexa owners!

Anamorphics are mainly all on the 'normal- longer' side. The widest I know of is G-series 25mm. For the most part, people like somewhere between a 35mm and a 100mm.

And those are wide! I think you are forgetting that the lens length more or less 'describes' the vertical Field of View, FOV. So in reality, a 35mm Anamorphic lens, see's what a 18mm lens roughly see's if you were to shoot that and crop the image. So the 25mm anamorphic, the widest I know, would be like a 12mm lens in horizontal FoV. This is why people are still getting epic wide shots with 40mm lenses.
