zeis 50mm ZE f/2 or the ZE f/1.4?

The f/2 is about $500 more.
I hear the 1.4 is soft under f/2- so that puts them even.
what other advantages to the higher priced lens?

The 50mm/1.4 is quite flat with chromatic aberration at wide open. The f/2 Makro is better at wide open. However, if you stop the 1.4 down to 2.0, it does help clean up the chromatic aberration and softness.

The 50 makro is a better lens, but I don't know that it's worth double. I thought about selling my 1.4 and getting the 2.0 Makro, but ... in the end, I don't know, the 50/1.4 is a great lens on its own and it's nice to have that extra stop of sensitivity if you really really need it.

optically the f2 is way better. BUT for video the mechanics of the f2 make it really hard to focus.

the focus ring is designed to mainly focus on close things. so it gives most of it's focus throw/draw to the sub 1 meter range.

i don't know about you, but 90% of what i shoot is around 1 to 5 meters away. so hitting your marks with the f2 will be quite hard.

The word "Makro" ought to be a clue to it's intended purpose. It's a stills lens designed for photographing things in close-up ("macro" technically starts at 1:1), not a cine lens designed for photographing people at "usual" distances. Optically the quallity needed for close-ups will carry over into normal photographic distances but the mechanics will naturally be optimised for its intended purpose.
