Zebra

I have been shooting weddings and orchestra concerts over the years and the footage have come out pretty good. I usually use the filters, manually adjust the focus, iris, and use the AWB button when lighting changes, and I manually use the gain.

So my question is, how effective is the Zebra marks? I know that theres a couple settings you can set the % from %50-%100. What is the ideal setting for these zebra marks and is this used only for white level exposures so you wont become over exposed? And will the zebra marks show up on film if they are there?

I got a Graduation to shoot this weekend, a Dance Recital, and then a wedding. So I was wondering if this will help the quality of my shots at all.

Thanks

The zebras are there to let you know what the true level of exposure is in your scene. You can't rely on looking at the LCD to know you're properly exposed, because the LCD doesn't necessarily give a true representation (especially if you're off-angle with it).

So the zebra is mathematically calculated off of the actual exposed image. It'll let you know for sure what your exposure level is, or if your scene is in danger of overexposing.

Zebras won't show up in your footage, they show up only on the LCD/viewfinder.
