Zebra for PAL users

Hi!
I have read some things about zebra in PAL mode but I think I haven't the concepts clear.
Is is true that in PAL we have 180 IRE? I know that zebra prevents of getting white with no details but, do we have to worry about getting illegal images for PAL broadcast? Does it have something to do with zebra levels? ???

Tahnk you very much!

Re: Zebra for PAL users

never heard of it..
PAL doesn't have the special black setup (0 IRE / 7.5 IRE) like in NTSC, do you refer to that?

Re: Zebra for PAL users

Mmm, more or less. I know that in PAL there's no need of setting the black pedestal at 7.5 but I don't know if it would be 'broadcastable' to shoot something which is over 90% with our camera.

Does anyone also know if the camera always catches legal colours even if we change the settings, matrix, gamma, colours etc.?

Thanks a lot

there are many filters out there (you have some in FCP) to make your video a "broadcast safe", in some levels and standards or conservatism.

the camera will easily capture colors and brightness beyond the broadcast-safe limits. it depends on your settings as much as the conditions you're shooting in, the exposure etc.
