ZDnet's problems with HVX200

Never happened to me. My guess is it's something internally wrong with the camera - Panasonic had better get their act in gear w/ such a big media company, though, the bad press that they're getting from this will certainly cost them more than a solid warranty repair.

yeah never heard about it happening repeatedly like that - this is a great oppurtunity for Panasonic to turn this around with a quick camera trade for ZDNet

The fact that he would mention the JVC Everio in the same breath as the HVX indicates that he has a rather poor grasp of the technology. As Bill Clinton would have said, "It's the codec, stupid."

Ned Soltz

He writes early on that they don't even record any HD with it -- they selected the HVX because it is based on flash media, eliminating the need to "capture".

He said it was a blown fuse. Wasn't there a post a while back about someone using one of those under the camera batteries ( i won't say the manufacturer in case my memory of this off) where they kept blowing a fuse. The article doesn't mention specifics of what he used or did. Other than that i can't recall this happening to anyone but from time to time I do hear a lemon cropping up on most all devices. That doesn't mean they will all fail.

he says that the camera wont turn on... why?

with this guys lack of knowledge..

The Battery was dead! lol

if you want to laugh guys read this...

"To summarize: Panasonic's 24P is a full 720-line frame of video captured roughly every 1/24 second. Canon's 24F "fakes" progressive scan by slightly offsetting the vertical readout of the green CCD from those of the blue and red, generating a frame with 1.5x the lines of the 540-line field, or 810 lines, albeit ones using spatial rather than temporal interlace. As a result, the quality question arises: Do Canon's pseudo-progressive frames look the same as a true progressive frame or does one see artifacts? "

I emailed the girl who wrote this over a month ago explaining that she mixed up her cameras, but I heard no response and they've just left up the glaringly wrong information. I understand that these editors have to write a lot of stuff but come on...
