Zampogna: The Soul of Southern Italy

This is a trailer for my documentary (82 min) about Southern Italian folk music and culture. I filmed it in Summer 2008 in Sicily, Calabria, Campania, and Molise. It was shot on a Canon xh-a1 and I used a stereo pair of audio technica 4051a mics to record the music and a AT shotgun mic for dialogue. I am currently submitting to film festivals and looking for a distributor. No I did not get into sundance ;)

I'm really happy with how the film came out and the overall quality of the video and audio. i am going to get the audio mastered eventually to smooth out a few spots etc.

Please feel free to contact me about the film or ask any questions, as well as share the link to the trailer with anyone who might be interested in it.

Shooting the film was one of the best experiences of my life - also the most challenging, and I say that having passed the bar exam a few months ago!

Anyone have any ideas of good festivals for this film????

I highly enjoyed watching that. Thank you for sharing. Brought my depression down a bit. love that line, "if you have passion you can do anything " or vice versa.

Thanks PaPa, I'm glad the film cheered you up :) Italian music is very up-beat. That's one of the reasons I love (and play) it.

Timbrook, I'm not sure what filming oneself like attenborough means. I was a one man band for the filming. I actually only make a few appearances on the screen when someone else held the camera for a second or I had it on the tripod. Part of the "story" as me being an Italian-American is that I am sort of the conduit between the viewer and the foreign culture, bridging the gap and providing a constant throughout the film.
