F5: Zacuto EYE EVF

Just picked up an eye. Anyone found a good mounting solution that is relatively inexpensive? Preferably less than $250? I plan on mounting the eye to an F55. Thanks

I ordered the Axis Mini with mine, because I wanted something that I knew would just work. You can build something very similar from SmallRig components from their ebay store (for about $200), I went with the Zacuto option simply because $150 didn't seem enough of a saving to risk getting a more fiddly, or less reliable mount (and having an EVF mount that works day-in-day-out is important).
 
I'll have to take another look at the axis mini. I thought it was meant to work with the FS7 with the 15mm rod attachment and not the nato rail type thing on the front of the F55 handle.
 
I gather they have a specific adaptor for the F5(5). It says on the website to email them about it if you're interested in using the Axis Mini with F5(5).
 
Just becoming that time of year when my Sony LCD,although I love it dearly,starts to fog up alot.. cant see focus at all.. Im going to order the EYE on the anti fog alone.. just cant work with it fogging up.. doesn't seem to do it moe than my other camera,s did.. but its a real pain.. I already have the mini axis arm which I was going to use with the Sony LCD..

Can second that emotion. I have the axis mini and its a very nice bit of gear.. different rosette from the Sony but Ive used it with an adaptor from Zac.. but ordered the EYE today so even better can just go straight in now.. I order the LCD rather than the OLED from Sony as I like the big screen.. but this fogging thing is a real problem for me every summer.. no focus, Im off of the job .. pretty basic.. Ive seen the anti fog video and well its just going to work everytime. I guess I,ll just have to get used to the tiny screen..
 
I used the axis with the gratical HD and now with the eye it's perfect solution. And yes these viewfinders make all the difference in the world when shooting handheld shoulder mounted especially the anti fog makes them essential to me i can't imagine working without them.
 
What is the story with the sleep mode.. not the sensor eye proximity thing.. but the other sleep mode if not "used" for some minutes.. the only one thing Im worried about is I leave it on all the time.. I always pull the battery in the evening.. but Im sure I,ll forget to pull the D tap or Lemo plug sooner than later and leave it on for hours on end. interested to hear about the "sleep" mode.. and glad to hear more glowing reviews..
 
I haven't tested the sleep mode but I have made it a habit to pull the battery on any lunch brake and at the end of the day.
All in all I'm very happy with the eye the sleep mode will help prevent character burn in over time (the evf is immune from burn in from the characters it generates but not from display characters generated by the camera) I can find my programmed button functions with the joystick faster and precisely and the size weight is perfect.
 
Zacuto, please make eye bundles. I'd love an axis mini with whatever is needed to make it attach to the f55 and the option of choosing cables included. The D-Tap version while nice, does not help me at all while lemo on both ends would be ideal for me. I have an eye now, but still fumbling trying to get it attached and powered. Guess I have to make more phone calls or a visit in person to a location that sells Zacuto gear to figure this out.

PS - if you're in the market for an EVF this is the one to get! It is heads and tails better than the Sony oled and something like half the price. The 4:3 screen is brilliant. Provides unobstructed view of your frame with tons of space below for all of your meters. Now only if I didn't have a temporary magic arm holding it in place and a small np-type battery with d-tap taped to my camera powering it . . .
 
I C A R U S... are you using the frame markers from the camera via SDI or using the EYE in built ones .. presuming it has them.. thanks
 
The built in ones. What I learned from the grammatical HD is to avoid using camera characters as much as possible because the do burn in over time. And the biggest problem has been solved and that was the REC indicator that the Eye can generate when TC is flowing. the characters generated by the EVF pixel shift slightly to avoid burn in.
 
Ok great many thanks for the info.. do the Sony LUts .. when set for Sub SDI out .. work ok with the EYE.. in cine EI I always just use the Sony REC 709 .800 LUT in the VF for exposure../contrast for focus.. thanks for your time sir.

PS Is here a rec light in the VF too.. as well as the external one.. or just TC moving.. if so what about when using TC free run?
