Zacuto EVF arrived

Just got back from abroad, & a Zacuto EVF was waiting for me. Steve from Zacuto made an effort to get me one for this trip, but it wasn't possible.

When I get some rest, & have used it in anger, I'll report more in-depth, but first impressions are very positive. It seems professional kit, providing a big, & beautiful, view.

Since I hang my EVF upside down from the AF100's handle, I wish it had more mounting holes, & I also wish it had FIR, but the peaking seems good.

Overall I love it, & much prefer it to my previous EVF.

Best,
Bern

PS This is my second positive equipment review this week, & want to be clear, I paid full retail for both.

I could be wrong - but I think it's because he's mounting it from the AF100's handle, and the EVF only has a bottom mounting hole. So he needs to flip it, or it will be too high.

A solution might be the Zamerican arm on a Z-mount attached to one of his rails.

What I'm really waiting for is for someone to do a in-depth comparison of the Zacuto and Cineroid EVFs.

It's funny, I pre-ordered a zacuto EVF back in April thinking it had already been released. After the vendor told me it was going to be a few weeks more I opted out and exchanged it for something else. I wonder if I'll be regretting my decision... How is the battery life on it?

I think you will find it's way better than the Cineriod, I bought the Cineroid as a stop gap but the picture out of the Zacuto is at least 2-3x better as you do not see the pixels...the same cannot be said about the Cineroid.
The Zacuto is not only a very professional polished product it's a must for all DSLRs or AF100, FS100 and F3 owners.
I don't get this excited or impressed that often with video gear but the Zacuto hits all the spots for me. I will have a chance to use it in anger next week as I am out filming with my AF101 and my new Nikon lenses...ye haa !

I rarely use rails, & even when I do, still prefer to keep the EVF attached directly to the AF100. This makes a compact package that can quickly move from sticks to shoulder mount, etc. I'm using a 5" Noga arm made for Red, & attached via a pair of Cine Locks, so the EVF hangs a couple inches in front of the Panasonic's, & a half inch, or so, above the LCD.

This seems the optimal position for handheld work, & mimics most cine viewfinder positioning.

The disadvantage of hanging the EVF upside-down is the Function Buttons, & cables, are all on the wrong sides. Cineroid makes a bracket to alleviate this, & hopefully Zacoto will offer a solution too.

Best,
Bern
