Zacuto 7.9volt camera power cable

I was just informed by Zacuto that they are no longer shipping their 7.9 volt camera power cable that allowed the camera to be powered via V-mount or Anton Bauer batteries.

It seems the cables they were selling were "faulty" in their words.

Does anyone know where to find a similar cable with a "D" tap on one end with the proper connection for powering the HVX on the other?

Any help you can provide is appreciated.

For those with a quizical (sp?) look on your face after this news... it was Patrick at Zacuto that broke the news to me as he was filling my order. I was really depending on this set up to power the camera. I have half a dozen V-mounts sitting in my office that I have used with my Beta SX and would like to get double duty out of them. Plus, I figured if I don't have to buy batteries for the HVX that's a good chunk of change saved.

LowDown, Thanks for the link. I will check them out. It looks promising on the surface.

An update from Zacuto on this issue is that they will begin selling a new battery plate/system for powering the camera this week. I'm hoping to receive more information soon. When I get it I will pass it along.

...on the phone with Zacuto now.....Something that should've been sooo easy has now turned into a bit of a cluster. Apparently the system you're talking about will only use the Sony style batts.....and a after much gnashing of teeth, I ordered an AB batt system just last week.....GGGRRRRRRRR!!!!!....

It's ok with HVX and V mount. + Dtap

No I heard that's the one which is faulty - Switronix 7.9v power cable.
Zacuto sells modified version of it that turned out to cause some interference in the video and on the monitor when powering from the plate.

It's believed that Switronix is working on an updated cable, though.

Yes I use this connection, with a Vlock adaptor of the same mark. I could have switroniks by email, they advised me this connection for the HVX 200. I had as a preliminary another cable which made noise in the camera. Now all is ok. Sorry for English, I'm french.

....the specs on the B&H site say it's 7.2v supply....which is what the Panasonic batts are... and this would snap on in place of the battery. The faulty one was the 7.9v and it plugs into the 7.9v hole right there in the battery compartment. At least this is what Zacuto told me.

Here’s the story with the Switronix manufactured 7.9 HVX camera power cable. We used to carry them until a couple of people complained of noise within and only in the Marshall Monitor when powering both the monitor and the camera together . We ran several tests and concluded that the HVX camera power cable was most likely causing the said interference. The way the cable works is that the Switronix V-Mount battery plate delivers 12 volts of power and the cable itself is doing the voltage conversion to 7.9 volts in the power paddle section (the part that looks like a fake battery). Long story short, the cables weren’t up to Zacuto's par . As of today we are expecting a new Switronix V-Mount battery plate that will mount to our system and have a 7.9 volt out instead of the previous 12 volt out and it will come with a cable that doesn't need to do any power conversions. Doing the conversion in the plate and not the cable is a cleaner way to go. We will be testing the new system this week and hopefully, if they are up to snuff, we will have them ready for purchase later next week around August 24th.
As for now we do have a solution for Anton Bauer users. It’s a battery plate with a built in cable that runs to the HVX and powers the camera. It works just fine.

Here are a few home made solutions. The old Powerbooks used to use 7.5 volt. You can probably find these and similar adapters on Ebay. You can use any cigarette lighter adapter connected to a 12 volt battery. You would have to buy and extra power supply adapter (the one that has the plate, wire, & plug) from Panasonic. It should not cost that much. You can use your existing adapter by adding a plug in line.

I very nice charger for 12 volt batteries can be made from an on-board marine battery charger. Cost about $30.00 plus the $7.00 4 pin female XLR plug. These charges work great on 3-12 amp hour gels. They deliver 1.5 amp and full automatic charging. You can leave them on the battery and always have one ready to go.

On the XLR always use pin 1 for negative and pin 4 for positive.

A very nice touch is the battery belt pictured with the dual connectors. One can power your monitor and the other your camera

7.5 volt 3 amp power supply should be fine to power HVX.

You can run 2 items with this monster. The belt contains 2 12 volt 7 AH gels.
