Z1 and MPEG2 compression

Hello, everyone! I thinkt here are people here that can give some awsers about the sony HDV camara.
I am a cinema student and I made my project with the Z1 last year. I really like the image but I just hate the MPEG compression.
I read some topics here and other sites about the way to avoid the mpeg compression and capture directly to a computer with a analog signal, but without satisfying awnsers. I know there is no HD-SDI output on the camera, but its possible at all to do that? I need some especific software on the computer? Anyone achieve that?

Thanks in advance,

Tuca

You can take an uncompressed analog signal to the computer but you'd need either a) a card with uncompressed analog HD inputs, or b) an analog->HD-SDI converter box and an HD-SDI capture card.

Thanks for the awnser, do you recomend any specific hardware you mention? I´m wondering if its possible to use a laptop.
I´m student, so I dont have a lot o money to spend. How do you think it costs the converter and the card?

Thanks,

Tuca

You're talking about capturing uncompressed high-def video. I doubt any laptop would be capable of handling the data load. You'll need a hard-disk RAID that's capable of sustaining the data rate (about 1.5 gigabits per second). Look into the AJA Kona card, or the Black Magic Decklink.
