Z finder or field monitor???

Get a Marshall V-LCD70XP-HDMI, which has a false color mode to better judge your exposure, as well as a "focus in red" feature for assisting you in focusing.

I think if the OP can afford only one of those things, he/she probably can't afford the V-LCD70XP-HDMI...

I have the 7" Lilliput and no matter what, you'd need a hood to use outdoors in bright daylight. In fact, none of the 7" monitors are bright enough to use without hoods in bright daylight. Otherwise, I think it's a great monitor especially considering the $200. price but you should remove the touchscreen.

which Lilliput model do you have?

thanks

One consideration is power

Say you want to go outside for 10 hours, with a monitor that is a major undertaking in batteries

possibly more expensive than the monitor itself

I have found my self in the dodgy position of no monitor and a cage style rig were I cant even see the onboard screen properly and the rig is configured wrong for a loupe

Know where to find a hood to fit the Lilliput? I've got one coming in the mail and would like to find a hood that will work.

I have no interest in surrounding the camera with a "cage" for that very reason. Myself and the AC need access to the camera. Why put it in a cage?

I power my rig (video transmitter if needed, onboard monitor, HDMI splitter/amp) with either a 12 volt Bescor block battery that I wear on a belt around my waist, or with NP1 batteries in an NP1 battery box that I put in my back pocket.

It's easy.

I have both Z-Finder and SmallHD DP1 Field Monitor. I find the Z-Finder more useful than the SmallHD DP1 Field Monitor because I go hand held more. If I am working with a AC than I will use the SmallHD DP1 Field Monitor for FF.

Just my 2 cents.

Wait for the SmallHD 5.6" monitor to come out....should be out in the next couple of months. It offers higher rez than the Marshall, iKan or Lilliput...makes it much easier to pull focus

Back to the z-finder...
does anyone who is far sighted use the z finder? which magnification?
thanks.
Thinking that a 7" monitor and my glasses may be the way.
