Z Finder 2.5x or 3x

I've had my 7D for 2 weeks now and can appreciate the focusing issues one can encounter when shooting hand held. Most of my shots are sharp when I'm stationary but the minute I move while recording......

So it's time for a finder. I don't wear glasses (yet!). I'm trying to determine whether I need a 2.5x or 3x finder.

Zacuto now offers one of each, which may be a new development but I'd like to get some community feedback as to which magnification is useful versus just over-magnifying the lcd screen. Perhaps someone here has tried a number of finders and can offer advice.

One other thing: How useful are these things for focusing on a tripod ? I'm guessing that's why people use monitors as the ergonomics must be a bummer on the back hunching over to peek through the finder.

Thanks in advance,

Thank you both.

Doh! I just remembered that there will be exhibits at NAB so I can try for myself.

i shoot a lot of live music with movement and the z-finder doesn't work for me, something about the magnification and refresh rate of the 5d's lcd mean it gets too blurry and i can't focus quickly.

i don't have the same problem with am onitor, i use the liliput group buy one from c5d so that's another option.

I found the 3x finder to be to 'close' to my eye if that makes sense. Adjusting the focussing of the finder had nothing to do with, I felt as though my eye needed to be about 2 inches further back from the finder to be able to see properly. I imagine 2.5x would be a lot more comfortable, but yes, best try before you buy.
I get the same problem as Andrew00, I actually find it easier to focus from the LCD during music shoots (live stage performance), but more set-up live performance in a studio the finder is very useful indeed.

How does one use the focus tracking and the autofocus motor on the lenses? Is a laptop required, or is there a touch screen on the 5D?
