GH5 Z Cam E2 Production Rig

I've been looking at getting a new camera again, and I keep coming back to the Zcam. I love the look of most of the footage I'm seeing from users of this camera. With other cameras I usually have to hunt for good footage, but the Zcam stuff always seems to look great. The color science just looks right to my eyes. Not overly processed or sharpened and no aggressive look baked in. Just pleasing natural color and bang on skin tones. User reports have been good so far as well. The only thing giving me pause is the atrocious autofocus, but for what I'll be doing I may be able to live without it. Or I may buy a smaller, cheap camera with good autofocus along with it, like the XT-30 or a6400, for when I need that.

I'm still thinking about the E2C myself, might be a good one to pick up used. I was a little surprised that BMD didn't announce a 4k micro camera to replace the current hd micro.

One thing about the Zcams is the RAW, I haven't seen a plugin for any of the editors. That means you still need a PC and their application to "develop" the images, and because it is PC, I doubt you have Prores as a choice.

That rig above would work well with the mini V mount batteries from Hawk Woods.

Given that Z RAW is brand new, I would expect that Adobe compatible plug-ins will be developed over the next 6 months.

Also, on the Z Cam website they state that their cameras are Apple ProRes certified, so recording in ProRes should work equally for both Mac and PC computers.

I think you're on to something with the Z Cam, it has a lot going for it and hopefully a bright future.

I think if Z Cam can deal with support issues, they stand a good chance of making a niche for themselves. I also like that they are supporting MFT, Super35, and FF formats. ( If the GH6 doesn't pan out next year, I might take the plunge on a Z Cam MFT camera )

I retired earlier this year but if I hadn’t I would pre-order a Z CAM E2-S6 Super 35mm 6K Cinema Camera, and when it arrived, I would rig mine the same way you rigged your Z Cam. Great job and thanks for sharing.
