Youtube goes 4K and announces 5 million in grants to partners

Here is the clearest and sharpest 720p I have seen on youtube. It was shot with a Nikon D5000 and a camcorder I believe. I think the climbing shots that are so sharp with very shallow depth of field are actually still images shot in a sequence and then encoded as video.

Blackout's is 1080p. I said that is the best 720p. The interview scenes were shot with a regular camcorder I think. It is some of the shots of the people climbing that I think were exceptional. The ones where he rendered the video from stills are simply amazing.

Check out this link below. It starts at 38 seconds into the video. The first few seconds of the girl climbing are sourced from stills. It then switches to the camcorder and back to stills after you see the single panning shot of the girl. I think this is quite exceptional 720p video. I believe if he had rendered it to 1080p it would have rivaled any 1080p youtube video out there.

It did look fairly sharp.. but there was something about it I didn't like... perhaps the sharpness looked too video enhanced? Also it suffered from some videoish bloom on all the whites.. bit too hot. Nice detail though.

I did some more tweaks and got an even CLEANER encode the last one where the youtube 1080p is nearly distinguishable from the original.

Will post it soon.

Could you post to Vimeo as well? I would like to be able to downlaod the original. Also could you post some of the clips to Vimeo as they come out of the camera.

If you don't have a pro Vimeo account then I can post them for you if you like.
