I have a question about YouTube, revenue sharing, using & monetize audio tracks...
First off some background info. I have a video on YouTube called Armagosa Dunes - Beautiful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KS9AnxqLYh4. It's nothing special but yet amazingly the video gets 10x the hits of all my other videos? It's totally baffling to me but anyway. Apparently if you have a video on YouTube that gets more then 10,000 hits you will receive an E-mail with an offer to apply for revenue sharing.
I am considering applying but one of the qualifications is: "You own or have express permission to use and monetize all audio and video content that you upload - no exceptions."
Well the video is mine but the audio (song) I got the off www.newgrounds.com with the following licensing terms.
Attribution: You must give credit to the artist. (which I do)
Noncommercial: You may not use this work for commercial purposes unless you make specific arrangements with the artist under another license.
Share Alike: If you alter, transform, or build upon this music, you may distribute the resulting creation only under a license identical to this one.
So basically I can use the song as long as I give credit (which I do in the comments of all my videos). But... If I make one penny then it's no longer non commercial.
I'm pretty sure the guy would give me permission because without me the song would have gotten much less exposure, He is not making money on it right now and I'm more then willing to give him a % of whatever I make. I don't think it will be much money but I have seen videos MUCH MUCH MUCH!!!! worse go viral and get 2 million hits. If that ever happens (which I doubt) I would be very disappointed I didn't pursue this.
Ok here are my questions:
1) Should I contact the author of the song and ask for written permission?
2) I would be more then willing to give him a cut of the profits. What's a fair %? What's the going rate? I was thinking 25% of what ever I got from the video. I highly doubt it will be more then $200 in a year So I would send him 50 bucks.
3) Should I just say screw it and leave it as is, everything free?
Don't believe me retarded videos can get a stupid amount of views. Watch this one! 373,500+ and counting!

Thanks in advance for any advice.
