your worst fears

Making one bad movie isn't a big deal. Everyone's allowed one mistake. It's making two bad movies that we should all fear.

it's official. PK is DVXuser's resident Confucius.

I'm terrified that I'll die before I do anything meaningful with my life. There's nothing that scares me more then that.

While I plug away at grad school, pretty much putting EVERYTHING on hold to do it, I always wonder if I will do something meaningful after school. I feel like I am wasting SOOO much time. I lie awake at night thinking about that one.

1. Spiders
2. Clowns, Carnies, and Midgets
3. Not so much heights, but FALLING from heights
4. Failure

all the little beasts creeping everywhere, whether it is little insects, spiders or also mice and rats and snakes...

Ever seen arachnophobia? I haven't. Completely petrified of spiders.

Sometimes I'm afraid that my body will forget how do handle involuntary actions and I will have to be conscience about my heart beating, eyes blinking, blood flow...

Come to think about it... I'm afraid of just about everything, but clowns are somewhere close to the top of the list. Clowns and mimes. Yeah... Clowns, mimes, and people with one syllable birth names...

3. Not so much heights, but FALLING from heights

That's another huge one of mine. I have no problems on buildings, airplanes, very tall balconies, sky diving, bungie jumping. Make me stand on a two foot chair to change a lightbulb and my knees shake like I'm in Riverdance. So small heights.

Why? If I fall out of an airplane and the parachute doesn't open, I'm dead, no pain, just death. If I fall off a chair, it's going to hurt.

Once I pass that distance and move from pain to death I'm fine with heights.

"Fear itself", no?

My daughter's coming of age, though still far off, scares the hell outta me. I think the joining of a convent may be in her future. I actually have a few lines on deck to use for any mamaluc that wants to date her. The best one I've ever heard was from a friend who met his daughter's rather disrespectful "suitor" downstairs - grabbed him - and planted a kiss right on the shell shocked kids face...then said, "Anything you do to my daughter, I do to you...think about it!"

Needless to say the lesson was learned and learned well.

If you fear spiders, you probably shouldn't view this clip:

Camel Spider
As an undergraduate I spent a year in India. The windows in my room had bars, but no glass. One evening I was sitting on my bed reading. I looked over and on the wall was a greenish spider at least the size of my hand. I throw my sandal at it and it skittered away. Never got it. My greatest was to wake up and see that spider next to me.

Remember that travel commercial where somebody books an 'exotic location with mosquito netting'? Then they wake up in the hotel and the room is a cloud of insects? That was my room. I had mosquito netting, but still not comfortable. I also stopped trying to kill the spider, since they were at least eating the insects.
