Your Workspace

Robbie Comeau

Como's back. back again
For the editors out there, do you guys find when your workspace/room is a bit messy, cluttered with papers and what not, you get stressed, and have negative thoughts on your work? Or is this just me...

I'm a stressful person in general, and I have my suite set up in my downstairs room.

Just my mac on a desk, with a sound system, and my hard drives with my HDV Deck...

If there's even stuff lying on the ground, or stuff ON MY DESK, it gets to me and I feel like bad stuff will happen (crashing hard drive, things not working out, bugs)

This may sound psychotic, but tell me there's someone else out there at least SIMILAR to this.

If there are people, the cure? Clean it up and you'll feel relaxed after :)

I was just thinking about that! I'm the same way. If the room is messy, so are my thoughts. Fortunately, I can take my laptop and go to the kitchen table, which is where I'll be editing tonight.

Which is nice, cause it's NOT your room/suite/workspace, so you can spill a drink and not get worried :)

Just don't hit the laptop.

I'm not an editor and don't have any compulsions along these lines but I have 2 desks.

One for the monitor/keyboard/mouse/beer space and ashtray, and a tiny modem.
The rest:
Printer, mainframe and scanner. Quite franky, there's not enough room on one desk for everything. And this is a typical 'home' setup. Nothing on the floor except sound driver-woofer shi*.

//Well, unless you have one of those big ass oil company executive desks. My 2 desks span about 12 ft, so I have 2-6 footers side by side. Even then I have crap everywhere underneath.
