Your overall opinion of TwilightFest?

I've watched about 3/4 of the films so far and hope to finish the rest in the next few days. Overall, I was highly impressed by what I saw. Congratulations everyone!

I'm not a film maker (yet) but would be happy to comment on anyone's film, on the thread or privately, from the perspective of an average-Joe-moviegoer. PM me if interested. Most of my favorites didn't make the finalist list so take that offer for what it's worth (maybe not much).

Being that this only my second fest i thought it was awesome. Where else can you get such a huge sampling of opinions, ideas and suggestions for free. And to top it off win cool prizes. I admit it is hard to receive negative feedback sometimes. As filmmakers we already knew the weak points of our films and it isn't insulting unless you are delusional and can't even see your own mistakes. And in that case it wouldn't help you anyway.

So that being said I thank You DVXuser.com keep up the awesome community. I am glad to be a part of it...

The fest is an excellent opportunity to get a film done on a deadline and get feedback. I entered primarily to get feedback. I expected, and received, good negative comments, and a few pats on the back. Both will help me improve my film-making. In this company, I am honored to place where I did, considering the quality of most of the entries.

I am disappointed that not more people bothered to comment on my film. I made a point to watch, vote and comment on every entry (and try to find something positive to say about each, or at least not damn with faint praise). I only received 24 comments total, counting the three from the AIM session (thanks again, guys), and only 72 votes total. Since 6 of the commenters did not enter films, that tells me that not only did not every entrant vote on my film, it appears that many didn't even watch my film. I realize you don't get this kind of feedback in other fests, but I thought one of the goals of dxvuser fests was to improve filmmmaking. We all went to a lot of time and effort to make these films. If we enter, I personally believe we ought to commit the time to review each of our competitors also.

I wanted to touch on this here, rather than the winners thread where it took place, because maybe here is a better place to comment on it.

haha, I think ol' Rapter has set a bar of his own with that
post. thanks for dropping by to take a big dump on everyone who participated in this
fest, my man! Haha!

Wouldn't be the first time, lol.
I'm not 100% sure which post I made you were referring to, I think it was this one...

This was posted by someone:
"The winners definitely set the bar - congrats to all the filmakers!. "
And I responded:

No, I don't think so. Not if you've watched the past fests. And I dont mean to start
something here but probably will, but that pisses me off. NO, they did not set the bar.
Jack, Mark Harris, Mark Jonhson, Mac, Norm, and others (sorry man) set the bar a long
time ago. Check your history, I don't mean 'you' Cambell, but everyone. Go back to the
old fest if you have time and brush up.

At the time I said that, there was something I was unaware of. Jack mentioned to me they chose to go non compete ( I hope I understood that right) because there were several mods involved in the project.

So that's clears up what I was concerned about.

However, I still stand by my statement saying the vets were the ones to set the bar. Too many to mention. If no one likes that, tough.
I'm not taking anything away from the current crop in this fest, sorry if it comes across that way, but I don't know how else to say it.

I don't feel any bars were 'set' in this fest. At least none higher than were set in previous fests.
To say a bar is set, is to say it's been set 'higher' than it was. I didn't see that this fest.

My opinion.

I feel you. Some members are more "popular" than others so any film they do, good or bad will get more views. but that does not mean they will make the top tier based on that. I do believe that in regard to the fests, the quality shines brighter than the name.

I know, I will get flak for that, but here it goes:

I was disapiontet (with some exceptions).

Most entrys missed the park, beeing a Twilight film.
I expectet subtile story telling with a sick twist at the end.
Black and White photograpy or at least noir style.

It looks to me that there was too much bias on technicaly propper film craft (the quality went really up) instead of story telling.

Teacher's Pet was my favourite in terms of having a Twilight feel to it.
But the guy with the RED won, thou lot´s a folks didn´t even get the story.

I may be an idiot, but I must confess, I don´t get the story of many entrys at all.

Yeah. I know - it´s easy to critiqe, especally when the critic dropped his own film.

I think overall, you guys smell like ham. And I am soooo glad I didn't enter this fest, cause i don't like that ham smell.

Frank,

I am right there with you. I think that people might have let storytelling fall to the side this time around. I'll be honest - I didn't get most of the stories myself. So you aren't an idiot. Or we both are.

Awwww, Marrrrrk. How so? What part smelled the worst? I thought I was being bluntly honest. Boardering on ass maybe but as honest as I would be to your face or anyone elses.

Not sure if you meant me or someone else, but I've been agreeing with most everyone so far, so, me works, haha.

Awwww. Marrrrrk. Say it aint so, lol.
"Hamfest baby. We're cooking now."
