Your opinion on this kit

Look for used. Believe me it's not worth pinching the pennies on a light kit, use works lights until you can afford a real kit.

Just purchased 2 fresnel Arri 1ks with extra bulbs + 13' movable stand $250 each. I originally bought a Lowel DV 55 kit, great kit but the pro light and open face pop lights all the time. Even know they say 100 hours... etc.., just have to be very careful after they're warm.

I want to use it for what it's intended, but wasn't sure if it was a quality buy.

Well sure . . . it's low end stuff but if, as you say . . . you are planning to use it for what it's intended? If so you'll probably be fine (although you may want an additional light). I've used a variety of cheap lights including Home Depot mini-flourescents for interviews that worked just fine.

I've moved up to (mostly) higher quality lights but wouldn't have any fear if I had to improvise if it became necessary. If you're just getting started building your kit I don't (my view) think you need to spend a fortune acquiring a bunch of expensive stuff. Some times when we meet a new challange it makes more sense to "go to school" on the cheap. Best example of (not) doing this are the offerings in the marketplace that start out something like, "only used 3 times" or "just got it last month, have the original receipt."

Best.

I agree, this is great advice btw. In my opinion (not that I have ANY experience with lighting [yet]) if you learn to improvise and learn your way around things yourself, work with what you got and make it look damn good; than when you do end up upgrading your lighting kit piece by piece, you will be much better off. Understanding how lighting works etc.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice guys! I really appreciate it.

Yesterday was a LONG day and I just realized I forgot to mention what equipment I own.

I have 2 Avenger c-stands, and a britec light kit (two 1000w lights, a 650w light, barn doors for all, soft boxes for all, stands for all).

I'm trying my hand at some green screen work, shot in an interview style. I know you need even light on the screen, so I thought I'd use the 1k lights for that.

I was hoping the lighting in this kit would be sufficient for the person being interviewed. I guess I'll 'go to school'.

I have a few other 'old school' lights and such, but nothing worthy of honorable mention.

Thanks again!
