your mp3 player of choice

Re: your mp3 player of choice

Haven't used it, but the new Sony Network Walkman has a 20 gig hard drive and 30 (!) hour battery life. I'm lucky to get 4 hours out of my Archos these days!

My buddy has the Napster mp3 player. He loves it. That Neuros looks like a good deal.

A big problem I have with these players is a lack of Mic-level inputs. It sure is nice to be able to record direct to mp3, though.

Re: your mp3 player of choice

the Neuros just added this feature of record level.. and it records to WAV too, which is cool...

Silly reason not to buy a great product. Not all crazes are for things not worth the interest.

The iPod works well and is well worth the price. Plus, you own a Mac. Along with iTunes they just all work.

Re: your mp3 player of choice

hmm.. well.. i have this kind of silly anti for the "number 1". that's why i buy puma and never nike, panasonic and never sony, mac and never pc..
now iPod shouts at me from all around.. i must resist!

Hans, your point of mac+itunes+ipod is right and clear... i just think that it's not as good as the competitors'.

Re: your mp3 player of choice

I use my iPod all the time. I got a iTrip device that plugs into it and I listen to my music through the car radio.

Re: your mp3 player of choice

Blue iPod mini and iTunes. I LOVE IT SO MUCH!

But not as much as my dvx. Never!

Re: your mp3 player of choice

I LOVE my ipod.

If you already have a mac I find it hard to believe that an alternative product would make more sense.

Re: your mp3 player of choice

I have an old 20 gig second generation Ipod, it's great! you can still hook the firewire into it without any adapters. Another alternative is the Archos Jukebox (I have that mainly to store my digital pictures when I travel, it also has 20 gigs to store music as well) I agree, this thing sucks the juice very fast. I would stick to the ipod, no need for palm pilot, because you have your contacts and calendars there as well.

I have to inquire why you think that.

And just so you know where my bias lies, I am an iPod user: 10GB 3G.

Re: your mp3 player of choice

I've been looking into getting a Sony Network Walkman. Those things look SWEET.

Re: your mp3 player of choice

I had an ipod for a year then I lost it(with about 15G of music in it :'(  )
then I bought an iRiver H320, 20G MP3 player.

http://www.iriveramerica.com/products/H320.aspx
http://product.iriver.co.kr/detail.asp?p_group=H&p_name=H320
http://www.iriveramerica.com
http://iriver.com/

I cannot say enough good things about my new MP3 player, iRiver H320.
It works as a multi codec player(MP3, WMA etc),
radio player, radio recorder,
voice recorder(including internal mic/external lav mic),
image storage device(especially if you travel alot, this is very useful, you can directly connect a card reader to H320 then upload images, also use USB cable to transfer images to H320),
image viewer(yes, you can view the images you uploaded, with its large color LCD),
MP3 encoder(connect this to any CDplayers or cassette players and make MP3s)
external hard drive etc.

sure, ipod is a little smaller and looks cuter than H320.
but everyone has ipods!!! and I think it is totally over priced.
and the most of all,
it sounds sooo much better than ipods.
much better bass(SRS WOW Bass), equalizer, Sennheiser  earphone.

H320 has a bigger battery, big color LCD, USB2 port, upgradeable firmwear, FM radio, built in voice recoder/radio recorder, image uploading device, external battery holder etc for the same price as iPod or less.

I love it!

Re: your mp3 player of choice

what got me with Neuros was those little features:
* FM broadcast from the Neuros to a radio
* WAV recording, with meters and gain control
* Play que to line up your next song while playing
* DJ features (playback speed and looping)
* 5 settable Preset buttons (hello DVX!)

some stuff the iPod will never have.. since they always try to keep things soo simple.. too simple IMHO...

another great thing is the Neuros constant firmware upgrades and just this great attitude of listening to the customers.. DVXish, again.

and you get all this, with 60GB in the price of the 40GB iPod.
and again, like many products who share smaller piece of the market, Neuros, try-harder-and-makes-it-better, for not as high price.

iPod will integrate seamlessly into my Mac/iTunes configuration... but then you hear so many bad stuff abut the new 4th generation pods.. buffering problems (you can't run with it, some say you can't even walk with it.. anyone?!), the notorious battery story is worrying me too...
oh well... i guess i'll wait until the Neuros will support video playing (it will!) and i'll get myself one!

Re: your mp3 player of choice

Honestly, if I were in the market I'd be looking at the Sony. 30-hour battery life? That's insane. But no recording capability. Actually, lack of recording kills it for me. I wouldn't buy it without that option.

As for the Neuros' gain and level control, the Archos has that too. But it doesn't mean you can input a microphone. You would still need a mic preamp to boost the signal to line level. That's what I use, it works OK.

The best scenario is to record output from a mixer or wireless mic receiver, making the "no mic level input" a moot point. I say go for it. Just beware the customer service and product support for a new company--it may suck like Archos.

Re: your mp3 player of choice

20gig 4th gen. iPod personally. I love it, it's never let me down, and it works flawlessly with the macs. Nuff said.

dude, if you have a Mac,the I-Pod+Itunes+ICal+AddressBook combo, everything just flows easily. Yes, we can run with them and they dont skip. Yes, we can adjust the EQ(in itunes). Yes, we can play different sound formats(although we all know .AAC is the superior format). Yes, the price went down a hundred bucks. NO, we dont have 5,000,000 hours of battery time. Watching the frustration of my PC friends over which player to get, which program to play them on, is actually more sad than funny. God, MusicMatch is horrible!!Doesnt the the Sony player only play .ATC files(gotta convert all your files--cant really call it an "mp3" player, can they)? Let the PC users fight over the 200 music players out there, for Mac users, the I-pod is enough.

BTW, I when I was still buying/playing video games(too busy spending $ and time on making movies now), I had your same philosophy--I never jumped from Nintendo. Everyone jumped on the Sony and Microsoft bandwagon, and I always felt those two companies own the world and dont need my money. Nintendo makes there living off selling games ONLY( not overpriced cameras, vcrs, tvs, computers, etc)!
