hey guys i would search but im on my phone at a shoot im reviewing footage from today and some how its all in 4;3 im recording in 1080 60 and i thought hvx shot 16\9 i know i did something wrong somewhere what gives letter box is on in aspect and letterbox shows up on lcd any help please got to shoot more tom morning early

Choosing letterbox aspect is for a 4:3 image that you want to have a widescreen look. The 720 and 1080 HD modes are always shooting 16:9 in the HVX200A. Squeeze aspect gives you the full resolution 16:9 image if your shooting in SD modes. Set your recording setup to 480i and then go into the Camera Setup and change the aspect to SQUEEZE. Then go back to the recording setup and change the format to 1080i. Now if you go back to camera setup you will see the aspect is retained at SQUEEZE and cannot be changed. It appears that changing the recording format will not automatically adjust the aspect for that mode. I just experimented with this on my 200A and that was the only way I could get 1080i with SQUEEZE selected in aspect.

Perhaps Barry or another moderator can clarify this.

i know it's a crazy question but are you watching the footage in something that isn't correcting the pixel aspect ratio? FCP does this automatically...but some other programs may not...

im viewimg in fcp the clips are not 4)3 when you have aspect correction on but there are no matte boxes. arnt there suppose to be letter box

Another dumb question.... Are you Zoomed in on the canvas and viewer? Happened to a pretty seasoned editor I shot for a while back...

You need to clarify your issue a bit.

No HD mode on the HVX shoots 4:3. If you see 4:3 and your sure you shot HD then its an issue with FCP. Make sure you use an easy setup in FCP. Like one for DVCPROHD 1080i. If your not sure what an easy setup is look in the manual for FCP.

HD will not have letter boxes in the footage however depending on how far you are zoomed in on the canvas you may or may not see black bars in the preview windows.
