Your favorite loglines ...

So with Barry's zip file list of the Zombie entries (http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=34447), what ones are you looking forward to based on the loglines? I can't wait to watch them all, but the ones that really caught my interest for one reason or another were the following:

  • img's "A Girl And Her Zombie"
  • Sean Michael's "Arsenic & Old Chili"
  • John Hudson's "Pestilence"
  • Disjecta's "Shot In The Dark" (if for no other reason than I think he & his entire family are the only cast and I want to see it)
  • Trent's "The Bargain"
  • Josh Townsend's "Till Death"
  • dpr19's "UZRAA"
  • Peter Murphy's "Visiting Steve"
  • Duffdaddy's "Z.A.P.T. - Zombies Are People Too"
  • ptek's "Zombie"
  • mrshow555's "Zombie Island" (this one sounds like it could actually be a feature)
Like I said, I plan to watch them all, but these stuck out to me. I don't think we can really choose them in any order, as I think I heard that random films will pop up for us to download & vote on ... just looking forward to seeing these based on loglines that grabbed me.

What about you all? Any you're itching to see, not based on the member, but on the log line?
 
I like the Zombie Island one... I think that's got a lot of potential.

If I had been thinking I'd have just sent in 4:58 worth of Scooby Doo and just dubbed in new voices... you know... with my dvx on a tripod in front of a television.

"Did you shoot this on a DVX?"

"yes... I... did."

Hmm, Matt, I wonder if that would have worked? It'd be funny, to say the least.
 
My favorite is Trent's:

FOR SALE: House with finished basement, quiet neighborhood, top-rated school system, $135,000. But there's a catch and it's chained up in the backyard.

I feel sort of bad for the filmmakers that just scrawled something quickly after being up for two days straight editing. I'll try to clean up the loglines and rewrite a few more if possible. A lot of the loglines don't do justice to the films. I think some of our filmmakers need to work on their logline writing skills--something worth cultivating IMHO.
 
Often times, it's easier to have an unattached 3rd party write your log lines and/or synopsis for your script or film. It's a REALLY tough task (especially with a synopsis) to try & sum up everything you felt was important in just a few paragraphs ... a 25 word or less log line can be even tougher.

That said, if you think mine sucks Barry, feel free to change it! :thumbsup:

Ahh The curse of filmmakers. We can direct but we can't write worth ****. That's why I found someone to write my latest movie. :thumbsup:
 
I am screaming with maniacle laughter as I read throught the list I just printed out... my favorites need no further explanation, but I'll give it to ya' anyway:

Government testing goes awry when man-eating war machines are unleashed.

(if you heard a bell 'ding' on each zombie-button-word then the bell just rang no less then SEVEN times)

A cop, a chick, and a guy with an eye patch shoot it out in the middle of a zombie holocaust.

(the simplicity and to the point nature of this logline has me excited to see if this person was as "let's get straight to what you're here for!" in their production... I'm also wondering how much of a problem it would have been had they NOT been able to find an eyepatch?)

A young pizzeria employee embarks on a mission to find the ideal girlfriend.

(again, I'm the most intrigued by this young man's trials and personal tests as a pizzeria employee and struggling adolescent... but if I gotta' see some zombie carnage then so be it.)

She would rather die then see herself dead.

(that is so clever that it gave me a headache.)

Young Frank wants money, power, fame, and everyone to know his name--the things you want are just the same, so careful when you play the game. This business opportunity may seem the ideal way, but the secret that the members share is passed on to their prey.

(that's officially the longest logline... but if the story is as tight as that then this one should be enjoyable.)


Okay now after that there are a couple titles and loglines that seem to imply a good original idea that MIGHT have been successfully carried to completion... There's also some combo titles and loglines that imply straight up, in your face zombie carnage with perhaps just the right amount of zombie cliche' to keep 'em entertaining... based on those two definitions I plan to watch my first few flicks in this order:

Zombie Island
Visiting Steve
Big Paw
A Girl and Her Zombie
Rotten Bastards

Then once I've checked those out I'm gonna' start picking off the list of people that I sort of know on these forums. Okay I lied... the very FIRST one I'm going to watch is Regenisis 'cause dj used around 120 people! THEN go to my list above.

That caught me off guard too, disjecta.

Anyone else notice that the BIGGEST theme throughout all the loglines, besides the undead of course, is corporate America and burning out/becoming a zombie because of it?
 
I'm calling it. Based on the loglines, we have officially exhausted all Zombie film ideas. We have ended Zombie Cinema. Congrats to all.
 
That is TOTALLY FREAKING ME OUT Envision! Yeah... I noticed that too.

Let me tell you what's so nuts about it... I have a friend locally who is about 10x more professionally established then me (okay 100x) and AFTER I met this group of people to make thier story she says, "Okay I want to be IN on this too!" Well she is a published writer and an absolute genius! I wasn't sure if my other group (that I'd already committed to) would get it together or not, so I tried to get everyone to get onboard HER idea... but they wanted to stick with the story that you're about to see.

Anyway, the other idea (and polished 10 page script) was... drumroll please... about Corporate Zombies! Think Office Space with zombies! It's a GREAT script she has with lots of cool and funny ideas... I thought that if we only woulda' done that we'd have the most original submission. I guess not!

What was that ZOMBIE short we saw here at early Summer? The Australian dude? I'll look for it.

That's where I fit in. But damn, it sounded GREAT after being up for 22 hours editing.
