okay, I'm doing this 20/20 mock interview. In the 20/20 interviews, they usually have this thing in the lower right corner. I placed it right here and it looks PERFECT in the editor:

But when I play it on my TV, it looks TERRIBLE, cause it's shifted WAY FAR RIGHT to where the 'E' is in the word 'NEWS'.

BUT, its perfect on TV like it is above when I move it over to the left some:

You'd think that my problem would be solved, BUT, what if I play this on ANY OTHER TV?? How do I get this tag to look the same and accomidate EVERY TV how I want it (In Picture 2)??

Note those white boxes on the screen. Those are the display-safe area. Make sure that the logo is inside the smallest box and it's guarantee to display correctly on any TV.

I know what the white ones are, but there are two things wrong with that.

1-My TV plays the tag correctly when its in the OUTER Display Safe Area(DSA), but when it's alligned with the INNER DSA, it floats in the middle on my TV. meaning, that there must be a TV somewhere that can only view what's in the INNER DSA and if I put it on the OUTER DSA to fit MY TV, it may not fit the TV of someone who owns a TV that only fits it in the INNER DSA. Know what I mean?

2-No matter WHERE I put it to fit the TV, it's still gonna hover in the middle like that in my orignial video, so if I were to move the tag to the left to accomidate my TV, it will hoover there when I go to export and compress it to put on the internet.

Whitewood, you can't have it all. Either you put the box to accomodate YOUR tv or you drag it to a place you don't like to accomodate ALL tv. It's a tradeoff.

But when I put it in between the INNER DSA, there space to the right of the tag on my TV. And I KNOW I don't have the only TV like that...

Unfortuantly 4:3 TV's will crop off anywhere beterrn 5 and 10% of the image. (It is different for 16:9 TVs, Projectors, computers, etc..)
And there is no way to tell.

Generally *most* TVs crop just outside the outer "white box" (correctly known as the "Action Safe Area") Basically everything inside this box will be visible on the screen, though very close to the edge.

The inner "white box" is known as the "Title Safe Area", because, well, it's the area inside which all titles should be for display on a TV. By putting all critical title content inside this area, you garuntee that it will be visable on all TVs - and not be crammed up directly against the edge, which is generally undesirable.

So while most everything inside the Action safe area is vivisble, you should keep your titles inside the Title Safe Area. Considere it a "Margin" between the titles and the edge of the screen.

The chanlenge (as you are discovering) is to design your titles in such a way that they will look good on all TVs.
You can choose to either: Float your titles, like you have, where the whole title element (including the "title background" [the box in this case])is detached from the edge of the screen. For this style, generally it's best to have everything inside the title safe area as in your 2nd picture.

Or: have your title elements go all the way to the edge of the screen. Basically extend your background in such a way that it doesn't matter wher eit gets cropped, but keep your text inside the title safe Area. Like this:
Lower3rd-02.jpg

Notice how the titles are away from the edge of the screen, but the background is extended to prevent the illusion of a "detached" title.

The way you choose depends on the needs of the production, you preferance, etc, etc... It's a tough artistic choice.

He's right whitewood. Bite the bullet. Place it inside the inner white square and be done with it!

ur RIGHT about that second picture, I just need to extend the colors on the right to touch the edge no matter WHAT TV or monitor it's on and have the actual WORDS in the Inner DSA. I'll try it and get back with you.

Ur advice WORKED mikkowilson. I just extended it to the right and kept the actual WORDS in the inner DSA and it looks good on ALL screens. Thread done. THANX!
