You might want to sit down for this. There's bad news. You're gonna die.

Sheesh...time to invest in a stand-up editing station?

And then people with stand up jobs ***** about getting varicose veins etc.

And don't forget that ice cream trucks cause child molestation.

These kinds of statistics are so silly.

My dad taught me when I was young that if you're sitting either be in a rocking chair or keep your legs moving. He sits more per day than what's listed here and he's fit as a fiddle goin on 64.

Heck, my grandpa didn't do anything his entire life but sit around and drink and he lived to be like 90 or somethin. My mom's parents sit around and chain smoke all day and they're both still alive.

The *food* is what's killing people. That's the major change, not how long we sit.

While there's probably truth to it, I think many of those arguments against sitting can be countered by other arguments. Such as the simple adage of getting more exercise and eating a better diet.

So I can keep eating my double double downs each mourning as long as I stop sitting...
I'M'A LIVE FOREVA!...
In memory of DOUBLE DOUBLE DOWN MATTHEWS

I never met anyone who drowned, fell off a cliff, had a car accident, was mugged and shot, or had a potted plant fall on his head while sitting at their desk reading posts to a web forum. Think about it and you will never leave your desk again.

lol True that.

Also, I just noticed that this was created by Medical Billing and Coding. WTF?

And what's worse is that their reference work combines a bunch of other (probably suspect) medical data and turns it into a study case that was never actually done.

So for them to say A leads to B isn't accurate because they're just taking a bunch of random facts and piecing them together and coming to a hypothesis that isn't based on any actual scientific data. Although it sounds *logical* that walking instead of sitting will negate the problems with sitting for too long, none of this is a test showing the effects of these seated people suddenly becoming active. Even in lab rats they have to inbreed again and again and again to try and even come close to a workable hypothesis. So this article saying that the sedentary person being active will have a similar lifespan to the active person being active can't possibly hold any scientific fact. There are a thousand worse things that sedentary people do that are worse than being sedentary.

Also, where's all the data to counterpoint their article? Last research I remember doing back in college said that people who worked non-labor jobs lived longer than people who had labor jobs. Now, that probably had not a whole heck of a lot to do with whether they were sitting or standing, but there's the facts.

So what exactly are these "active jobs" that they're comparing to these "sedentary jobs" (and I'm talking about in the actual study, not this bullcrap mock up). Because if an "active job" is being a coal miner and a "sedentary job" is being say, a computer programmer, I'm sorry -- I'm putting my money on the computer programmer.

The reason these sit = death articles are written again and again is because they're POPULAR. Most everyone who has a job sits a lot. So places like this Medical Billing and Coding place piecemeal together some studies so that you'll follow the links and go to their website and they know you're reading it because YOU'RE SITTING AT A COMPUTER.

Ugh. Sorry. I just hate these kinds of ugly advertising scare tactics. 80% of people can't change the way they work, not really. So all things like this do is scare people into thinking that diet and exercise don't matter that, "You're going to DIE! And WE told you!"

Sick.

Sitting isn't the issue it's just being physical sedentary, which is a no-duh. The stats even say standing is almost no better. This is like saying McDonald's is killing us but really it's all unhealthy food, it's just easier to name one then to list off all the other causes.

But you are fat because you sit? Maybe you sit because you are fat? In high school you get up and walk every 45-60 mins and depending on any other things (extracurriculars, walking home, etc) you may walk a lot more. But most people who are fat as adults were fat as kids, when they were getting the most exercise of their life most often.

Walking is the healthiest thing you can do, I have been thinking about getting a treadmill for a workstation. But I am actually fairly healthy considering the amount of time I spend sitting and my bad eating habits, good genes go a long way. (THANKS DAD!) :P

Actually *meditating* has been shown to be the *healthiest* activity you can do for yourself.

Think about all those 90 year old monks who just sit around pondering things all day. That alone pretty much nixes everything this "test" is claiming.

You're on the right track of "sitting because you're fat".

Again, it's that old statistics joke that says ice cream trucks cause child molestation. (Ice cream trucks come out in the summer and child molestation increases during the summer in case you didn't grab that).

The real *damamge* an article like this does is that it leaves the reader with some vague impression that exercise and diet and lifestyle don't matter. But again, it's all a ruse. The reason a thousand of these type articles pop up everyday is because they know you're sitting when you read it -- it's the most important thing in advertising: Tell them anything so long as they're paying attention to YOU.

I mean, seriously, think about it -- what business does a medical billing institution that operates as a kind of medical college search engine have doing a mock up article like this? Do you think, LOL, they somehow are trying to HELP people? ROFLMAO

It's a scare tactic based in no real science designed to get people to go to their website. That's it.

Line this up with any Nazi propaganda poster. Honestly that's what it reminds me of.

"Between 1980 and 2000 sitting increased by 8% and people got fatter!"

DUM-DUM-DUUUUuUUUUuUuM

lol

Complete bullcrap. How about they make an article on trans fats and hormones between 1980 and 2000. Seriously. That would be a good chart. But the Sitting & Co. can't sue you.
