You like Cars??

I've been lurking around these boards for awhile now, and thought it was time to post some stuff that I have shot with the DVX. If you like custom cars you might like this piece. This is the fourth one I have shot for these guy's and the budget is ultra-low, and the turn around is always fairly rushed. Check it out if you get a chance. Thanks for your time.

Nice crane shots.
Just curious, how much convincing did it take to get those final shots with the camera attached to the side and hood for the moving shots?

Looked great.
Very professional and clean.
Liked the split screen compositions at the end.
Saw crane or camera shadow in one crane shot, but probably not in TV safe zone.
Didn't seeme rushed.

Hey guys thanks for the comments.

Sirius-Believe it or not I was the one who wanted to use the car mount. It worked great, and as a safety percaution I did have a strap aroud the camera and the mount.

jdanstan-Yeah, I know the shot your talking abut, but fortunatly you can't see it on a TV screen or monitor.

Thanks again for checking it out.

Nice work! Everything on the production side was great. And the crane shots were smooth. Is that a Cobra? Keep up the good work!

(but just asking, people spend money on PTCruisers?? wow, never new!) :)

I meant convincing the owner of the car to allow you to strap the mount to the car. Most owners of custom cars like this are psycho when it comes to something like a camera mount being attached to the body of their babies....

Phil- Yeah it was a Cobra crane that I used. I like your comment about people spending $$ on PT Cruisers. There's a hole bunch of older people customizing those things. It's like the poor-old mans hot rod!!

Sirius-Sorry I misunderstood. The owner didn't care, he was all for it. Funny thing is it's a one of a kind car, but he was more concerned about the camera.

Thanks for sharing the piece. Great work! I love the use of diagonals in your shooting. Keeps it interesting. The crane adds a lot of production value to the shot as well - the moves were well exicuted too. (Although the repeating crane shots may have been to much for me, I liked it more when they were changed up.) The split screen was well exicuted as well. The reflection in the cars pain job was amazing.

I'm not a fan of the PT. But after seeing this video, if I were to get one, I would deffinately have this guy customize it for me - he does beautiful work.

BTW- this is more of a personal pet peve:
How can these guys have an ultra-low budget? I mean they do custom work on these cars, (Which they do a great job.) and it costs an arm and a leg, or maybe two arms and a leg. Anyway, they know how much craftmanship goes into their work, and they get paid for it. The work you do has just as much craftmanship to it, so you should be compensated accordingly. The video deffinately shows of their work well.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. Great job!

Oh, the only other critique that I have is that I do not like the intro music. It works, but that guitar riff is way overused by everyone who has SoundTrack. (I'm guilty of it too.) The rest of the music was fine.

Hey waltind, thanks for the kind words. I agree about the overused guitar riff in the intro music. One of the limits of Soundtrack is it's lack of good riffs. As far as the ultra-low budget goes you are absolutly right. It's not fair, and they of all people should understand this. I should forward your words to them!! Ha!!

The video looks good, like a real show I'd watch on speed network. My only complaint is about the car. I hate the PT Cruiser. It looks like a hearse.

You can say that again!

No kidding! If you did I would back you up. But it might be more effective to just approach them before you do the next one and renegociate the terms for productions in the future. (If that is possible.)

waltind- Before I do another episode for them I will renegotiate and see what I can come up with. Thanks for your advice.

Black Sails,

Really nice! You did a great job, nice smooth shots. You do good work and deserve more higher paying jobs for your efforts! Keep it up!

Lyons-den,

Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate it. Even though the pay isn't great, hopefully all the hard work will lead to bigger better things in the future. That's what I'm hoping for at least!!
