You guys have GOT to see this. Its called the MOVI, Hand Held Gyro Stabilized rig

Look at this - www.evoheads.com - another level of stabilization. Stabilized way into telephoto(250mm equiv), joystick and wheels operating precision the way it should be. It's a friendly, simple advanced capability.
 
Is there any video of the MOVI using long lenses? There are several light weight hand held stabilized heads working now in Los Angeles that can stabilize long lens shots (250mm equiv).

And you will get worn out holding this thing. Unlike steadicams

It looks awesome, but in another way its not.

It is easy to test this.

Try holding a 10 lb bag of potatoes at arms length for 1/2 an hour.

Yep. And then try doing that while holding it in a specific position, while trotting and staring at a small video monitor an arms length away, while at least one person directs how you're holding it.

And then do all that 20 times in a row.
 
In the BTS video it was mentioned that now you can have 1 operator focused on movement and another focused on framing. And another on focus too I imagine, or is that the framers job?

And who is really going to trust the "majestic mode" where the gears compensate for your movement so you can move & frame by yourself? Still need a focus puller though.

I can see the value of this combined with an easy rig for support... but then why not just use an EasyRig by itself and hire a decent operator?

I linked to a comment earlier that expressed more hesitations about this product, but these have come to mind as well. I just don't get the excitement over this.. other than wanting to play with a new toy.
 
I've been seeing this all over the place. Look forward to reading what you all are thinking. I think it's pretty cool and yes, very expensive.

and it also does not stabilize lens height - nor really provide what a good Steadicam op does - that is, create walks and talks (80% of Steadicam work) easily.
