You guys have GOT to see this. Its called the MOVI, Hand Held Gyro Stabilized rig

This is a nice idea, making a multicopter gimbal into a hand held device.

Is this powered by Lipos like a full multicopter setup or another type of battery?

Must...not...find...a...way...to...justify...this...purchase...must...save...money...instead...of...buying...more...support...gear... argh...it...hurts...my...precious...!

but it'll be worth it - think of all the money you'll save on on other support gear, think of the shots you can do .. think of the ... OMG I want one!

Looks like one of those things where you can't help thinking "what the f***ing hell didn't I think of that!"

Looking forward to seeing more!

Hmmm... I've got a project coming up in a very remote location where that kind of device would be very useful.

Longer lenses work great! Its so stable that you can put pretty much any piece of glass you like.

While I am over the moon about this piece of gear and can't wait to get my hands on it, your blog post seems a bit ridiculous. I fail to see how this could in any way make dollies or jibs redundant. Even handheld will still be around because it's not like shaky cam as a style is going to suddenly disappear because of this thing. This is just one more, extremely awesome, addition to the tool bag. It's not the second coming of cinematography.

About 20 years a go I wrote software for a product like this... well... much bigger for mounting on a helicopter... The biggest reason most people who have done similar, don't do it for this level of product, is the lack of a good 'cheap' machine shop to do the prototyping, then somebody with bux to invest in the production...

wait till you use it. Then you will get it.

There is nothing unusual about this technology. It's not accidental the name of MōVI's manufacturer is FreeFly Systems (known for its Cinestar Gimbal used on various copters). MōVI itself seems to be just a repackaged version of such gimbals. It does not look like any critical piece of this technology has been patented. And idea to use such gimbals for handheld shooting is not new. Since FreeFly Systems is the first to implement it on a commercial basis, they will have (and should have) an opportunity to enjoy premium pricing for some time. But since they are not the only one who manufactures similar devices (for example, DJI's Zenmuse Z15N is another almost ready for handheld use), we'll see soon many other "MōVIs" and at a lower price.

BTW, I checked several sites that sells copter gimbals - most of them are suddenly sold out. Is it because of DIY smart guys?

From the looks of the gear, any possible chance to put a joystick on one handle and solo operate it (move + frame)?

I'd likely use deep focus as with any small flying camera... if solo move & frame was indeed possible.
