found this @ HDforindies.. i posted this on the Dell 2405 thread - but figured it needed it's own. it allows you to connect the HVX to an Apple Cinema Display (20" & 23").

"The new HD-Mate acts as the interface between multiple HDTV sources and an Apple Cinema Display. It supports high definition resolutions up to 1920x1080i and comes equipped with one DVI and two component inputs that connect satellite television systems, camcorders, DVD players and gaming systems such as the Xbox 360. A total of three HD sources can be connected at the same time using the HD-Mate, which allows the user to easily switch between sources using a simple push-button menu on the unit itself. It features intuitive on-screen menu pages, accessible through the menu buttons on the HD-Mate unit, to offer image adjustments to accommodate different view outputs and screen sizes.
In addition, the HD-Mate enables the 20- and 23-inch Apple Cinema Displays to function with full HDTV capability, displaying HD images with uncompromised quality and resolution. A model supporting the 30-inch Cinema Displays is already in development. The HD-Mate is expected to ship later this month for $300."

if the camera does support pass through monitoring...this could be a nice, cheap way of editing...other than 1080p.....

i believe this will allow Cinema Display owners to use it in the field to monitor and playback clips from the HVX's component outputs instead of having to purchase another display (Cinema Displays don't have component inputs like the DELL 2405).

that would be a bad decision...as cinema displays also have no way to CC / adjust color bars etc. Also they can't handle 1080 24p.

the Dell is a far superior monitor for using in the field than the apple.. the Dell not only has component inputs already, but you can set it for true exact pixel for pixel representation.

esperman is right.. you dont get a waveform or bang on color accuracy.. for that you need the panasonic 17" display, that has blue only and scopes built in, at the loss of 1080 resolution.

don't know if those menu options offer pixel for pixel representation... i was just thinking that it is a much *cheaper* (depending on street price) option than buying the Dell... just to be used for playback/monitoring in the field (which alot of people are buying the Dell for). i don't think i'll be getting the Panasonic or any high-end monitor anytime soon - this just gives me the option to use my Cinema Display which (i'm hoping) is better than the camera's LCD - yes?

yeah, its cheaper, but for $300 you can turn your $1500 monitor into a non 1080 display... you can get that dell monitor for $780 on a good coupon day, and dont need to rob your edit system of it's display everytime you go out and shoot.

-not to be picky, but am i missing something?

sorry.. yes the device supports 1080.. but your monitor needs to as well... the 20" cinema stated above does not, but the 23" does.

The gamut is going to be all wrong unless it has a way of adjusting. You could use this for proving focus, but not color.
