Yet Another Question: How does external audio feed affect HMC audio settings??

Apologies for so many questions today, but I am entering some uncharted ground for my experience level. For my gratis filming of wedding (friend's son getting married) I found church can provide an audio feed from their sound system so I won't need to rely on HMC40 mic. However, when I plug in the church's audio feed, what settings should I use on HMC40 audio; leave it at fixed? switch to manual and set dB levels manually (to stay below red bar) and so forth. I have never used external audio feed on HMC40. To minimize "operator error" I plan to leave HMC40 in Full Auto mode. Thank you.

Hey Dennis - Unless you have the XLR module on your 40 I wouldn't do it at all!! Most desks give you a line out and the 40 only has a stereo mic in without the XLR box. Even if you do use a feed it's a real dicey way to get audio for a wedding. Rather put a wireless mic on the groom if you want decent audio! The mic for the Church is normally on the lecterns and on the priest not on the groom and that's where you need to pickup audio. If the Church PA is crappy then everything will be crappy. My norm at Churches is one radio mic at the lectern and one on the groom ... at the very least maybe take a feed into a XLR box from the Church into the camera BUT still have a mic (or a recorder) on the groom

Excellent points and thank you Chris. Logical once you pointed this out and once again great to have advice ahead of time rather than have my lack of experience revealed after the event. Dennis
