Yes I'm bringing it up again

With NAB around the corner does anyone know by any chance if there will be other options on audio to be used with the 5d etc...? We have the Beachtek and Juicelink at the moment. Anyone finding either one of these work well? I want to record right onto my card/footage without sync during editing. I'm using the Sennheiser mic. One thing I need is the audio level on the unit to be able to see if I'm redlining. I know it has been beaten with a stick LOL but people find ways to make things work better everyday so info changes everyday.

Tascam just released a recorder that looks good if you are swimming in the one-man-band DSLR pond.

You can probably output a scratch track to the camera, but unfortunately to take advantage of good quality audio, you'll have to sync it in post.

I'd rather just hire a professional sound person with more professional gear and not worry about it, but hey. If you don't have that necessity, this is better than nothing.

I have Sound Device MixPre-D which can feed directly into my canon 60D. Display super bright even in sunlight, dials smooth, great pre-amp, and I have even on occasion handheld it with camera attached although it can be awkward. Also works great as a two-channel mixer on its own although I wished it could record directly to a SD card.

Sounds interesting, the safety track is a great feature. If the pre-amps are anything like the mixpre-d I'm in.

Tascam dr40 or dr100mkii work great. Use a padded cable from line out of the recorder to reduce the level and connect that to the mic in on the 5D. You can record to the recorder at the same time, or just record to the 5D while being able to see the levels on the recorder. You can also adjust the level on the recorder and not have to use the camera levels.

Since they are showing the new Tascam recorder mounted so close to the camera they should have included a composite video sync input so drift would be taken out of the picture for longer takes and easy sync in your editor.
