Yes I'm afraid I have another adaptor.

Two (out of two) filters I use for the MPIC are Hoya. I am familiar with their products for over 30 years, but this Macro lens is just one lens. One lens alone can't address the huge spectrum refraction of white light coming out of that lens. Is like expecting white light to come out of a prism instead of this:
http://spaceguard.rm.iasf.cnr.it/NScience/neo/images/prism.gif
If one was to use TWO prisms (such as above) facing each other, the light would recombine and come out white again. That is the role of the second lens in an achromatic doublet or... triplet (if the budget allows)
Here is an early example of recombining the light back to white:

If one leaves room for error (just a bit) here and then (just a bit) there, usually the errors sum up (not cancel each other) and the results are..... well, you get the "picture"

Cheap is the most expensive option one can go for! It never ends... (imo)

has anyone tried making a viewfinder stemming directly from the lens adapter...
lensadapter- viewfinder- camera..???
in other words.. your looking through the lens adapter and not the camera...
ive seen this done on some professional lens adapters

You mean a director's finder?

I believe you could do that with an adapter. But you'll need to buy some viewfinder / director's finder parts, most likely off of BHphoto.

I'm pretty sure that's right.

How about using an SLR camera? Plain and simple. Wouldn't that "qualify" as a "director's finder"? Same lens (Nikkor, Canon etc), same DOF, same perspective, same....
one records the image having the video camera attached (the image converter) and the one doesn't.
?

Dan.....most of the time I just have a hard time understanding you......what "image converter"?

Marlene,
Most call it "adapter" while I thought/think the name for this apparatus is more appropriate as "image converter", because the main function is to convert the video image into something ...well... nicer (resembling the film look) not to adapt SLR lenses to video cameras.
"What" it does versus "how" does it do it. Is the same thing (just a different perspective?)

no.. not a director finder.. a viewfinder.. such as the one on the back of the dvx... instead of looking at the image (upsidedown) through the eyepiece viewfinder of the camera.. have one directly connected to the 35 adapter.. so u could see the image directly from the lens

I think maybe I am confused Zakaree...

Wouldn't the image still be upside down since it is the lens that makes it upsidedown?

I guess I just can't picture what you are saying...

4x5 Speed and Crown Graphics have what's called a sports finder so you can frame your shots without looking through the upside down image projected on the GG. If you adapted one of these to your 35 adapter you would be able to frame your shots but you would have to do your focusing through the camera. Doesn't seem very practicle since focus is so critical and would only help if you were filming a static object.

I think you would need a beam splitter like a bolex, which would suck down light...

I got my CO +7 achromat diopter today so I threw it on and made a very quick test. The results made me very happy but without a +4 close-up I couldn't zoom in enough to get focus so I'm showing here the results with the +4. Conclusion....much better edge to edge sharpness and the aberations are greatly reduced. All I need to do now is to ditch the +4 and then I think I'll be good to go. Do you think if I shorten the distance from the lens to gg I wouldn't have to zoom as much?

I filmed a wall to check out the sharpness and the rest was shot looking for aberations in the places they show up the most.....highlights on edges.

Here's the test with the CO+7 and +4 Asian Close-up

and here's the test with the Asian +10 and +4 Asian Close-up

Forgot to mention that the wall isn't painted on the very top, it's a bluish gray so that's not fringing you're seeing.

now our adapter lengths may be different, but I only had to use a +1 Asian 72mm Macro to get to focus. The +1 gets close enough but doesnt seem to disturb the sharpness like the +4 did. It may be there- but I cant see it.

So before you rebuild your design, try a +1 first (if you have one) with MF15 and Z75.

I had a serious PC crash and cant post any results from my CO conclusions. But I am getting it fixed as I type this :)

Sure I have a +1....I'll try it. I just figured that bad optics was bad optics and any disturbance would be caused by the glass. I'm still going to shorten one of my adapters and try to get focus without the close up.

Sorry about your PC crash and I hope your neck injury is ok.

Marlene,

Is there anyway to get some footage of some Bokeh?
It would be nice to see what this AOL cd case can do with that.

I was actually thinking of doing that....so yes....I will do the test in the next day or two and post.

JEEEEZ! the +7 CO changes the picture 1000% How much does that +7 CO cost? And how does it effect the distance between the dvx and the GG compared to the +10 asian that alot of people are using?

actually i got more than that..

Marlene, would the + 4 asian shorten the distance between the dvx and the GG as well as give more distortion around the edges than a +10 asian?
The higher the + value of the macro, the shorter or longer the distance becomes between the dvx and the GG ? So which one would give the least distortion around the edges?
