Yes I'm afraid I have another adaptor.

Well now there are other things to life other than 35mm DIY :) Hopefully we are all out shooting as well...

Ovjamaica- true those D screens are sneaky but they are out there. Until then we continue to research replacements. Dumb B&H told me 3-4 days to get my Linhof screen in and still nothing, yet they will not let you cancel an order for what they consider a "specialty item". I could have had it shipped from Germany by now!

bklyndv: would you be able to post any pics from your Go35 with a D screen/your GG comparison, as you say it gives better results? Or would you consider lending me one of your GG screens so that I may place it in my adapter and do a side by side? With all the PMs I am getting, people are wanting to build this thing but the D screen is a brick wall.

In other news: I am currently revising my design slightly as I have discovered something last weekend that may take the Asian macro out of the equation and hopefully remove any chromatic abberation. And yes it has to do with achromats: Precision, I cant wait for your findings and Dan, thanks for the wisdom! :)

This slight revision will not affect the desing in any MAJOR way that is- but you may need to buy another $3 piece of PVC (for those who have built this already). I will be ordering the parts tomorrow, and hope to have more info on this next week.

As soon as it arrives, i'll do a comparison of the two macro's. Thanks for that link on ebay BTW.

I wouldn't "lend" out a glass. I'd send it to you provided you prepaid $50 plus shipping and give you a week to test with a $50 rebate in the balance if you're in any way disatisfied.

I can't do the comparison -- Dennis Wood has my Beattie now :)

Hi everyone, I have now finished the version B of the ED35, I did a little documentary of how to put it together and how simple it is. it has now an aluminum body.

I tried to compress the documentary but still very big, 122 MB(for 3.5minutes)... so here are my question.

I have procoder, so I can do nearly any format.

What is the best format to compress the short, what codec should I use to compress the video and the audio.
is there anyone that can host the documentary?

Thanks

I have never used procoder, so I'm not sure how much I can help. If you have the option you should try and use h.264 or sorenson. 3.5 minutes should end up around 20MB for high quality web video.

What did you use to edit it with?

If you can get it down around 20MB, I would be willing to host it on my server space. Can't wait to see it.

I have server space to mirror it on also, if you need it. You might want to try compressing it to WMV as well. Storage space isn't an issue, so I can host both versions if you want to try it that way.

Ed, Is this w/ the 100 or the 100a?

So can you tell us what the "something" is? :)

I have been googling it to death and checking local camera shops for ideas and info. I found an APOchromatic lens, but it was old and too much $.

Here we go, a 6MB documentary about the version B of my ed35.

Thanks Snodart and OVjamaica, I put on my small server for the moment, now if it's a box office I will probably ask for you help.....

Hope you will like it, I do, and I must say that the result is brilliant, I have barelly no loss of light 1/2 stop max, it's rock solid with its aluminium body and no grain at all on a 1.9 aperure..

Anthony

PS.. I will put it on ebay soon, I mean this Aluminium version, I can tell you that from the footage I have of it in HD, it's as good as anything I've on G35 and Micro35....

Nice work moochy! :D I like it. One thing that this helped me realize is that there is that much distance between the screen and the first macro. Hadn't really picked up on that before for some reason. Thanks. I'll put this up on my server when I get home, as it may be nice to have a second 'mirror' for the file. Unless you oppose, that is.

Thanks, and yes go for it, we're all here to help each other...

moochy. nice video. I wish I would have been able to see that before I built mine. Once a person gets over the hump of understanding how they work, they are pretty easy to build. Thanks for posting it.

I have done several tests with my Ed35. I am pretty happy with it, but I plan on fixing two things.

1) The chromatic aberration
2) grain from D screen (It's not bad, but it not perfect either).

So to solve #1 it is a matter of spending the money on a achromatic or apochromatic lens (or getting lucky on ebay/garage sale/etc).

I have spent some time testing simple prototypes to solve #2 by vibrating the screen. I am almost there. I am currently designing a system that prevents vibration in the Z direction and only allows it in the X and Y directions. I would love to get any input if any of you have had any experience with vibrating screens, or better yet- seen the inside of one of the popular vibrating GG adapters.

The alteration to make the Ed35 vibrate should not be too complicated for DIYers like us and should not run more than $50-$70 more (not including GG). I have documented everything so far and will be making a free tutorial when all is done and working great. In the meantime, I would love to hear from any of you who have experience with vibrating GG's.

PS. I didn't create a new thread for this because it is a mod of the Ed35 and it seems that the goal of the original thread by Ed was to perfect this design (thanks Ed!)

Hey Moochy,

Thanks for posting that video. One question, where did you get that aluminum tube?

Well, the aluminium tube come from an old zoon lens that was huge and with screw mount. So I wasn't plaing to sale it as wasn't going to get much for it, so I decided to take it apart, and I found just the right component for my project.

I would suggest that you buy one of those 30 years old big zoom lenses, they're very cheap and could provide you with all you need.

Sorry I have absolutly no experience in vibrating GG :( ... But I must say that I have no grain at all with my adapter (as lon as I have an aperture of 1.9)and chromatic aberration as well...I must be lucky:)

Moochy- I am very impressed with the tutorial video and the refinements you have made to the project. Thanks so much for posting that! :)

Just dropping in to let you all know that I'm still here and enjoying the progress you're all making......nice tutorial Moochy. I think it just goes to show that there are many ways on building this adapter. Ed got us pointed in the right direction for sure. I don't think that there is any perfect was to build this.......after all it's just a tube with a lens on one end, a focus screen in the middle and a macro on the other while keeping in as short as possible.

I made a few attempts at creating a new "perfect" wax screen this week but they each fell a little short in one area or another, I guess that's what experimentation is all about. I'll be working more on it this weekend.

In the meantime I got my support together so I won't have the problem of either up and down or side to side movement. One variable down :) And I still have my first adapter using the nikon type d screen to play with.

Ok....I'll keep checking back and if I come up with some miracle easy wax screen formula.......I'll let ya know.

How many of you are feeling comfortable shooting with the adapter hand held? I haven't tried that yet but then I'm a small woman.

No chromatic aberration? What macros are you using? Would you mind giving me the detals of where the macros are in relation to each other and to the GG?
