Xtreme Paintball: Fox

Couple of quick questions:

How did you do the birds? Was that real footage you made a matte from?

In the billboard part, there is parallax and what even looks like camera mapping. How'd you do that? Multiple layers in 3D space or actual mapping. It didn't look like simple layers staggered on the z axis.

How did you do the paint balls coming directly at the screen? Particle system?

Again, great work.

ps. I don't really hate you.

That's so fake ... paintballs never fly that straight/precisely.

Who the hell am I kidding? Very nice stuff as always Kai, top notch - of course.

Thanks fellas :) ...and Matt, I love you too buddy ;)

To answer your questions, the billboard scene actually is just layers in 3D space and a camera move on it. Nothing too tricky there.

The birds are just particles spit out of Particular, and same thing on the paintballs. Particular spitting out at a high velocity in a directional pattern, then animating the emitter to shoot where I want it to go. I find myself using Particular quite a bit for things other than sparkly particles (crowds, birds, clouds, etc)

Here's a link to a quick (& dirty) AE file with the particular paintball effect for those interested: http://www.kylestauffer.com/dvx/paintballs.aep.zip

Awesome! How did you make all of the back grounds? AE, PS, stock footage?

The scenes are all mocked up in PS using photos and textures I've collected over the years, and stuff I've shot. Then its all composited and animated in AE. Then final color grade and finish is also done in AE.

Damn good job thanks for sharing the video and workflow.
