XLR plug wiring help.

I want to connect a mono microphone to XLR input number 2 and then use the camera's switching to get the input from this microphone to both channels.
How do I wire the XLR plug?
I think that on the camera, the pin at 12 o'clock is pin 2, the pin at 6 o'clock is pin 1 (earth) and the pin at 9 o'clock is pin 3.
I think the tip of the minijack of my mic goes to pin 2 and the "outer" shaft of the minijack goes to pin 3. Is this right?

Here's the most common one, as far as I know. But websites keep saying the standard isn't followed all the time. Looks like your assumption on which of the miniplug connections go where is correct, though.

Balanced Audio (3 pole XLR):

Pin 1: Ground / Screen
Pin 2: In phase / +ve / Hot
Pin 3: Out of phase / -ve / Cold

Unbalanced Audio (3 pole XLR):

Pin 1: Ground / Screen
Pin 2: Signal
Pin 3: Ground / Screen (connect to pin 1)

Thanks GenjerDan. I used the unbalanced audio connection and am very happy with the results. The success does however raise another issue. The mic I have hooked up is a mono Sennheiser MKE300. This plugs in to XLR socket 2 which I wired up as above. On the audio panel behind the LCD screen I select CH1 select and CH2 select both to Input 2. Gain, (by menu selection) is set to 60db and Ch1 and ch2 audio vol controls are set to 12 o'clock. My recorded audio is crisp, clear, no hum, in fact perfect to my ear. But when I unplug my set up and revert to the internal mics, switching the audio panel Ch1 select to Int L & Ch2 select to Int R, leaving the gain and volumes as before the audio recording is hopeless, low volume, and muffled. It was for this reason I tried the Sennheiser. (This is a new camera.) So now I have proved to myself that the Senheiser is 351.5% better than the onboard mics. But this flies in the face of another post I recently read where someone else wanted to hook up their Sennheiser but were advised that the onboard mics were as good as the Sennheiser!
Are the on board mics awful on the DVX and my results are normal?
Do you think I am doing something wrong?
Do you think I have just got dud onboard mics?

No idea. I've never had any problems with the internal mics, never noticed much of a difference (as far as volume) between using the built-in and using an external shotgun.

OF course, I don't have the Sennsheiser, so maybe it's "hotter" than normal. (Normal for me is an Azden. Don't laugh.)
