Let's all start using VHS camcorders again.

And editing with 2 VCR's.

You mean you don't use that method? ****. I'm gonna have to start paying attention to new trends.

p.s. HDV sucks and will quickly go the way of MicroMV.

If Jan hadn't said it, I would have.

The HDV specifications only allow for 1080i, it records at 4:2:0, utilizes MPEG 2 with GOP which is a good delivery codec but very unfriendly for editing and the highest rate it will encode to is 25 Mbps. Audio is two tracks recorded using MPEG-1 Audio Layer II at a bit rate of 384 Kbps while the HVX should allow four uncompressed tracks.

How is that not a problem?

It's not that I care which product I use, I just want want does the best job for what's needed... I just had this discussion while I was in getting hired for some web commercial/infomercial work... They have a web designer who focused in video for a couple of month's in his program, convinced; he wrote the company this huge $$ package list for products to buy in house including the Sony..... especially for something that's a new project the president asked, will it make a difference when people are watching what were shooting on the web or an analog tv ( since most people don't have HD Sets. and no tv stations in my city broadcasts HD of any kind. the kid just sat there UMM.... NO..... man I felt bad for him... I don't think starting a name bashing on products is worth while, no one will every win.... DVXUSER.COM, although I think way more is discussed here than just what's related to a Panny product; I think that name needs to be remembered. I'm not scrolling back to quote, but saying something like "panny's phantom camera" sounds like it's coming from a seriously insecure individual codling there hdv on the floor in the corner of there apartment.... No Baby don't listen to them DVCpro for 5-6k isn't coming..... it just isn't ...... there never going to deliver..... I wouldn't say HDV is a problem.. it's just for who isn't for... I' would however say this... Affordable HD ( true HD ) is a problem ( cost wise to a smaller company ) and PANNY has been the only one to step up as the real solution.

I don't care if there's two birds in my cam chipping away at a stone slate, if that produces professional HD than I'm there.. But for now there isn't one camera in store at an affordable price delivering HD....

Clint is right. HDV is not a great way to go. It's like choosing Windows Millenium. It's a little better then win98 but it is not XP... But still it gives you a promise of "a better tomorow", and it's a great way to record weddings in hd...

All the recent discussion about consumers even having a display that can even display 1080i has
been a very interesting one to say the least. The core issue here is what does an HD camera do
better than a fully capable SD camera, all delivery mediums aside? A 720p60 camera can
record variable framerates, which is very valuable to a digital cinematographer.

Other than that, these HDV cameras offer absolutely nothing that is valuable to me. The color
information is pretty important, too, which the HDV (as a format) doesn't offer any advantage
over a fully spec'd SD camera. I just really don't see the point or case for HDV. JVC made a huge
mistake by designing a camera with 60p CCD's and a video format that has the capability to
record 60p, but they went cheap on the MPEG2 encoding chip that limits the recording to 30p.

That was a really stupid thing to do.
Otherwise, that would have been a pretty decent camera for a cinematographer..

The guy from DVFilms has said some one of the best cameras to use if going to film is the Sony FX1 HDV. There must be a reason for that! I'm sure the Sony's are good and the HVX200 will to,,,but just because you have 1080p and 24 doesn't mean your going to do anything, anyone will every see.

You give Spielberg a VHS camcorder and I bet you could make a better movie than most of use with the DVX200.

I was told be a Canon rep when ask about a GL3 and he said "nothing official as been announced",,,,that is not a no and it is not a yes either.

Pointing fingers at other people is not polite.

Isn't this a tactic of yours? :undecided

For the millionth time, if you don't like the camera, stay out of a forum that's here to discuss that camera. The fact that the HVX isn't using HDV is more than enough for a lot of people to want it. To some, it's far more important a feature than a removable lens, or shoulder mount form factor.

How can anyone one at this point still be surprised that this forum is comprised of many fans of the DVX and soon the HVX? What the crap is the point of trolling in here. Does it make you feel superior or more intelligent to point out shortcomings of a sub $10,000 camera? Do you feel more "professional" because you don't like aspects of a prosumer camera? Go get a “real” camera and start shooting movies that will put all of us to shame.

Jan is doing her job, and is pretty helpful with information to those of us that chose Panasonic products. I am not partial to any company as no consumer should be, but what the HVX promises is great news for a lot of us. I guarantee that most folks in here that make money off these things would easily jump to another camera if it out performed the HVX for a similar price.

Well, we are out of forum, aren't we?
Now seriously. Who said I don't like the HVX? How can I don't like when it doesn't even exist yet? Just because I think it "could" be a good tool, doesn't mean I have to take all and can't say my opinion. Doesn't mean I can't criticize it. Doesn't mena I have to be e numb zombie saying " Yes Panasonic, yes Master".
One thing is for sure, no matter how good it will be, it won't be oerfect, so I can always criticize the point I don't like. Doesn't mean I don't like the camera itself.
By the way, you are wrong, pointing fingers at other people are not my tactic. Besides, I represent nothing else but myself with my opinions.

The HVX is going to be P2-based and it is not going to have exchangeable lenses. These are two design specs which are not going to change.

Don’t like it? That’s fine. No one says you have to. But droning on and on and on and on and on about a moot point does nothing for anyone.

Yes you do have freedom of speech, and freedom to your opinion. I would never suggest you like or dislike any consumer electronic device, that's up to you. My issue is what does it accomplish continually playing devils advocate and stirring up trouble with those that are looking forward to this camera. I have run into your handle nay saying quite a bit. Just doing a search on your name in these forums, it's a pretty obvious picture that's painted.

All I'm saying is if you have issues with the camera, try stating them only a few times instead of repeatedly in every thread. Then maybe go out and look for a camera that better suits your needs. I personally think that would be a more constructive use of your time so you can start shooting.

Bitching and moaning on the internet isn't going to sway a corporations marketing and design strategy. Competition will. Competition is what created the HVX.

I think we can all agree that Michael Bay sucks.

What? He's America's greatest hero! A true renaissance man. Ignore the fact that the man hasn’t been informed the 80’s are over.

Yeah, but I get this feeling that Michael Bay is the kind of guy who doesn't like interchangeable lenses.

He also doesn't like to direct. Just snort coke off hookers breasts while the DP does it all.
