whats the advantage/disadvantage between using a Canon XHA1 or HV30 (30P HDV) as a second, less expensive, cam to HVX200 VS using the HMC150 for the same purpose?

Image quality

matching the P2 footage

NLE performance

Camera i/o

handling?

Also wondering. To be honest I am already sold on getting an HMC150
I love my XHA1 but would rather AVCHD - $$$$$$$$ just waiting.

Do a search on this forum. This as been discussed extensively.

But to match the HVX200, you are better to go for a HMC150. It as the same sensor block as the HVX200a and HPX170 and it's image is pretty similar to those two.

Hi Format Foreigner,

I agree the best match in video quality would be for a HMC150 with HVX200 or HPX170...although there have been other users on this forum who have said that mixing the XHA1 with the 150 has worked well for them...even though the picture will look very different...do a search for XH-A1 on this forum and you will be able to find others who have done that.

If you need 30p, then either XH-A1 or the HV30 will work. If you need 24p, then the XH-A1 outputs native 24-fps progressive over Firewire. The HV30 uses pulldown, so you would be better off with the HV40 that records native progressive 24p instead of the HV30. The HMC150 has native progressive 24-fps.
